(62,444 posts)That could mean any number of things.
Citizen's United is a 501(c)4 organization. Is that "special" for the purpose of your question?
Tommy_Carcetti
(43,198 posts)501(c)(4) are considered "social welfare organizations"
Princess Turandot
(4,787 posts)1)Donations to 501(c)(4) entities *are not* tax deductible to the donor, and
2)501(c)(4) entities *are* allowed to engage in all kinds of lobbying (i.e. engage in political activity, endorse or oppose political candidates, or donate money or time to political campaigns.)
The term 'charitable' is not used by the IRS in connection with 501(c)(4)s. They refer to the Citizen United kind as tax-exempt social welfare organizations.

(9,148 posts)..trying to drop the lawsuit filed by CU against NY ag & instead open a hearing & investigate Schneiderman & another (don't recall who).
Its driving me nuts trying to find that article.
Will post here as soon as I locate it.
The target has been put squarely on Schneiderman. But isn't that how a criminal org operates?
This particular subject is going to get really nasty.
