who are the real "elitists"?
liberals often get accused of being "elitists".
given the truism that any group has its share of jerks, i'll accept that there may be a few liberals who are also elitists. fine.
that said, i think the real elitists are the right-wingers.
they're the ones who are constantly going on about how they're the "real america" -- not fighting for an equal say, but fighting to be dismissive of the opinions of liberals, people who went to expensive schools, people who research and study issues, etc.
i've met plenty of republicans around america, and many of them think that they're opinion counts vastly more than the opinion of liberals.
because they "work hard" while we're "lazy".
because they're "small business owners" (who are the self-proclaimed greatest part of america and what america is all about) while we're "collecting welfare and disability checks".
because they talk "common sense ideas" while we talk about "ivy league research papers from nobel prize-winning academics".
plus, they sneer and drip with condescension whenever they refer to us. always dismissively, down to saying "democrat" instead of "democratic".
again, i'm not saying we're perfect. but i am saying i'm fed up with their elitist air of superiority and i've really had enough of them claiming that we're the "elitists".
we're not. they are. in fact, i think that's a big part of the appeal of the republican "brand". they make their base feel like they're the true americans, going god's work, the backbone of the economy, etc.; while we liberals are foreigners, immigrants, lazy, blacks, "mexicans", thugs, and of course, "elitists", etc.
calling us "elitists" is just more of their usual projection, it's just never called out.
