I'm sure Clinton will share much that is intelligent, topical and even witty. She will no doubt win the debate on issues, yet I still fear the showmanship of Trump swaying uneducated voters.

(56,177 posts)because the natural urge is to throw something when der trumpenfurher comes on.
People really should be prepared to vote in online and phone polls because the media is itching to call him the winner...this will thwart that.

(17,304 posts)The Monday night football game is the Falcons and the Saints. Two teams that will likely not make the playoffs, so don't let that stop you from tuning in to the debate!

(25,320 posts)Here is a means to present to the American people a rational exposition of the major issues that face the nation, and the alternate approaches to their solution. Yet the candidates participate only with the guarantee of a format that defies meaningful discourse. They should be charged with sabotaging the electoral process. - Walter Cronkite.

(146,288 posts)Many people use those debates to decide for whom to vote. That makes them important enough to me to watch.

(146,288 posts)I'll be watching the debates so I'll be able to discuss them intelligently. I have always watched the televised debates, starting in 1960. I can't imagine not watching such historical events. Truly.

(90,674 posts)I never in my political life thought that during a campaign I could be as sick at heart as I am at this point.
I anticipated a sense of joy about Hillary running. Instead..... I knew it would be hard-fought, but I never imagined a creature like Trump would get this close to the WH, and with the media aiding and abetting him.

(35,328 posts)a mockery of the thing and the media will give a pass. I can't watch it would probably give me a stroke.

I know absolutely no one who has not made up their mind. This debate will change nothing.

(26,877 posts)I held debate parties for myself and my friends. Had a stocked cooler and plenty of snacks. Right before it started, I handed out those rubber suction-cupped thingies that allowed you to fling them at the screen that would stick as long as there was enough spittle.
Of course, those of us who passed the bong beforehand had trouble with excess spittle.
The upside? Never had to see Reagan/Bush's faces (since they were covered in rubber suction-cups).
The downside? Chiseling dried spittle off my TV.

(5,810 posts)But it isn't because I don't care. My husband and I have tickets (purchased before debate dates were announced) to see Garrison Keillor. That will be much better for my blood pressure and digestion! We fully intend to vote for HRC as soon as our absentee ballots arrive. And we will be watching the remaining debates.
So please don't assume those who won't see the debate live are uncaring. I will check back in on DU and on Television when we get home from the Keillor show! I am crossing my fingers that Hillary mops the floor with Don the Con.

(25,304 posts)It will be about style over substance.
My husband will watch it and I will catch bits and pieces of it. I will try to get a "feel" for the event.
My mind is already made up. I'm voting for Hillary.
I will follow the factual/transcript details on DU and the Washington Post.

(4,742 posts)Why? I have a degree in Public Speaking and Debate. What these people do during the "debates" isn't real debate. They lie, they obfuscate, the interrupt, they don't answer questions, they don't debate. It has become a media spectacle.
The pre- and post game of the debates is even more annoying and useless bluster on cable news and somewhat network news.
I'm voting for Hillary...I do care...and I don't like trying to be guilted into watching bullshit.

(31,233 posts)Even if he's slightly better than Matt Lauer, that's not a high bar to reach. I agree with Nate Silver, Hillary will win the debate, but the media will throw it to Trump, simply because he's been graded on a curve this entire election cycle.

(870 posts)Not because I don't care, but because I cannot stand to listen to that man bob and weave and spin tales.
Instead, I'll be doing what I've done for the last 12 years: go to DU as I live vicariously through all of you.
