43-37 in 4-way race
Respondents "revealed a hardening of personal dislike and professional uncertainty about Donald Trump," said Democratic pollster Peter Hart, who conducts the NBC/WSJ survey with Republican counterpart Bill McInturff. "Voters see Hillary Clinton as safe and smart. In this year, it looks like a winning hand."
...
But the poll shows Clinton, a former First Lady, senator, and Secretary of State, with powerful advantages over Trump on "being knowledgeable and experienced enough to handle the presidency" (60 percent to 23 percent), and "having the right temperament to be president" (56 percent to 23 percent). Voters prefer Trump on "being honest and straightforward" by 41 percent to 31 percent, down from his 16-percentage point edge on that quality in June.
Voters choose Clinton by a two-to-one margin, 51 percent to 25 percent, on "being in charge of our nuclear weapons," and by 48 percent to 33 percent on "being a good Commander-in-Chief." Though Trump has cast himself as the candidate of change, voters pick Clinton narrowly (44 percent to 38 percent) on "changing the country for the better."

(135,425 posts)Sources: Bush 41 says he will vote for Clinton
(CNN)Former President George H.W. Bush said Monday that he will vote for Hillary Clinton in November, according to sources close to the 41st President -- an extraordinary rebuke of his own party's nominee.
The sources said this was not the first time Bush had disclosed his intention to vote for Clinton.
The comments came during a receiving line for board members of the bipartisan Points of Light Foundation when Bush was speaking to Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend, Robert F. Kennedy's daughter and the former Maryland lieutenant governor. There were roughly 40 people in the room, and it's not clear how many people heard him, though multiple sources did.
The Republican former president's embrace of the Democratic nominee represents a dramatic new chapter in the complicated three-decade-old relationship between the two most prominent families in American politics.
It's a stunning political move -- one that comes just 49 days from the election, and less than a week before Clinton and Donald Trump square off in their first debate....

(3,635 posts)there are several flaws with Team H's strategy, one of the biggest is that they've allowed the narrative of Trump being portrayed as the 'tell it like it is' candidate while Hillary is portrayed as 'secretive, scheming' (with sexist undertones) candidate. This is bullshit of epic proportions.
Another thing revealed in several recent polls is that the undecideds and 3rd party leaners (which include many younger voters and independents) actually love Obama and want to continue his policies (and prefer his vision by huge margins over Trump's vision), while these same people express dislike/distrust for Hillary.
It just goes to show you how much some people vote on 'personality' or 'media portrayal' ie Obama is viewed as a popular good guy, while Hillary is portrayed as evil/mean/corrupt - when both politicians are very similar in integrity, honesty, ideology, platform and vision.

(5,275 posts)We have to crush Trump, we have to repudiate him and his core followers. I have a feeling we may because many non foaming at the mouth supporters may not be able to go through voting for that creep.

(348 posts)But I so wanted Hillary to win nearly every state. I know that's not likely in politics anymore. But Trump doesn't deserve to carry ANY states. The guy is a dangerous, misogynistic loon.
Also, for the worriers about Ohio - I am doing my part to make it blue! Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer!

(15,286 posts)Some of you might remember the case of the Dover, Pa school board. In these usually sleepy elections, a group of religious nuts ran stealth campaigns and got control of the Dover school board. They immediately moved to install teaching of creationism and other non-scientific/fact-based curriculum. When the community woke up, the members were angry. There was a federal law suit which Dover residents won, but at the next election, the "creationists" were unceremoniously ousted from their seats on the school board.
There's also the story of tiny Leith, North Dakota, that was targeted by white supremicists for takeover. If you've never seen the documentary "Welcome to Leith", do so. It's terrific.
In both these cases, the towns weren't what DU'ers would think of as liberal bastions, but it does show that when push comes to shove, Americans are more than capable of doing the right thing.

(17,026 posts)the poll for Clinton, and it is very SERIOUS. On the other hand, nothing of concern for trump. Yes, he's behind but that's not worth talking about.
