Related: About this forumWhat's so attractive about Hofstra for presidential debates?
I've heard that it was host to one some years ago. You'd think an effort would be made to spread this around?

(18,402 posts)Wright State University in Dayton was supposed to host it, but they backed out for security and cost reasons (around $8 million). Hofstra was used only once before for a debate, in 2012, so they picked up the ball. I guess they had the experience now, and the money and security issues.

(36,437 posts)It's Long Island, sure, but essentially NYC for the media. Close to Kennedy and LaGuardia. Quick shuttle from DC.

Media is based in New York.
They held a debate there in 2012.
The University was willing to host it.
Easy to travel to from JFK Airport
Fairly easy to secure, since it's on Long Island.
The original location cancelled due to high cost of security and disruption.
I think that's it. Not everyone wants an event like a presidential debate to come to town. Truly.
