Trump Campaign Melts Down As They Realize Hillary Clinton Is Beating Them On The Ground

The Trump campaign has melted down just days before the first presidential debate as they are low on cash and realizing that Hillary Clinton is out organizing them and winning on the ground.
Politico reported:

Frustration is growing within Donald Trump’s campaign over the Republican nominee’s yawning money gap with Democratic rival Hillary Clinton — just as the presidential race heads into its final fall stretch.

Trump’s top advisers have held a series of tense conversations in recent days about how to close a fundraising hole that’s grown to over $200 million – a deficit that’s led Trump to essentially cede the TV airwaves to his Democratic rival. The discussions, which were relayed by more than a half-dozen sources, have veered into finger pointing, with some participants pinning the blame on the Republican National Committee or on Steven Mnuchin, Trump’s national finance chairman and a newcomer to the political scene.

….

The flare-up comes at a critical juncture in the campaign, as both sides turn their attention to voter turnout. Clinton has used her formidable financial advantage to significantly out-organize Trump, investing seven times the amount of money on TV ads and opening up dozens more swing-state field offices than her Republican opponent.

Winning campaigns aren’t plagued by finger-pointing and infighting. Bitter internal fights ar

Just how Trump is making money by using "campaign" money to pay his own business's, could be contributing to his lack of campaign money. Not only is he taking a huge cut of the money, but maybe the donors are wise to him, and don't think it's a great idea to donate to man who is raking in millions off the suckers who are dumb enough to donate to him! The GOP, and his brain dead base, may be stupid enough to let him get away with it, but big donors might not like it.

IN mid-August [2003], Walden W. O'Dell, the chief executive of Diebold Inc., sat down at his computer to compose a letter inviting 100 wealthy and politically inclined friends to a Republican Party fund-raiser, to be held at his home in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. ''I am committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year,'' wrote Mr. O'Dell, whose company is based in Canton, Ohio.

To a multi-billionaire, as Trump claims to be, two hundred million would be just a small percentage of his/her wealth so I guess we can reasonably assume Trump is no billionaire.

I mean come on, after two years of fighting off 16 other opponents in debates and primaries and all the physical demands of the campaigns in both the primary and the general stages, and all the money spent (much of it probably siphoned off to his own businesses but still a lot spent on the campaign), you'd think he'd just cough up some dough to not see all the work go to waste because of a lack of funds — if he had it that is.

A much longer read, but damn, it is a well-researched piece. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/09/trump-campaign-money-woes-228601

Fundraising reports released this week painted a stark picture: While Clinton had raised $373 million to date, Trump had taken in $165 million.

Particularly concerning for Trump were revelations this week that Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, one of the Republican Party’s biggest donors, had decided to direct just $5 million toward electing the GOP presidential nominee. Adelson, who’d once been expected to invest as much as $100 million in Trump, is instead focusing the vast majority of his political giving on down-ballot races.

In the days since Monday’s call, and Johnson’s abrupt signoff, other members of Trump’s finance circle have been stewing over Bailey’s remarks. Many of them believe they’ve made the best out of a bad situation, pointing out that in the face of ongoing resistance from many of the party’s top donors and lacking the infrastructure of past GOP presidential nominees, they’ve managed to fund a national campaign.

Trump campaign plans $140 million ad buy

By JULIE BYKOWICZ and JILL COLVIN Associated Press
September 24, 2016 7:59 AM

WASHINGTON

Donald Trump's campaign is planning for what it says will amount to $140 million worth of advertising from now until Election Day.

The total, if executed, would include $100 million in television airtime and $40 million in digital ads, according to senior communications adviser Jason Miller.

The plan represents a new approach for the billionaire businessman, who has repeatedly bragged in recent weeks about how much less he's spent than Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and seemed to rely heavily on free media coverage of his large rallies.

If a campaign doesn't have staff and volunteers working everyday doing phone banking, canvassing, voter registration and data entry, etc., you're gonna lose.

Trump's hubris in thinking his strength of personality and ability to charm the free media and the rubes would more than make up for running a stingy "budget" campaign with little ground game is going to bit his ass.

It'll be even more evident after Monday's debate when he comes up against a knowledgeable, seasoned, experienced debater/candidate with real credentials in handling policy question with sound answers instead of bs and bombast.
