Democratic strategist and media consultant Joel Silberman appeared on MSNBC Sunday to talk about the low expectations set for Republican nominee for president Donald Trump.
I would call the expectations game a trap, Silberman said, who appeared alongside conservative pundit Hugh Hewitt, because they seem to be saying that as long as Mr. Trump stands up and doesnt sigh or flip his lid or go off the rails, that that was presidential, and thats hardly a presidential standard.
This isnt Americas Got Presidential Talent,' he said.
When the topic was raised as to whether Trump might bring up Pres. Bill Clintons adulterous affairs in the debate, Silberman pointed out that Trumps own previous marriages have ended in infidelities, rancor and divorce.
Well, I think if Mr. Trump dares to bring up infidelity, I would remind him that people in glass houses should do the nasty in the basement, he said, because hes a well-chronicled adulterer.

(2,577 posts)It might be time for all the "great minds" of M$M to stop acting like the presidential election is the equivalent to voting for the Homecoming court.

(2,484 posts)The narrative isn't set solely by the media. Even here at DU, one can see the same sort of mistakes.
First it was not taking him as a serious threat. I didn't initially until I saw the shift towards the right in Europe.
That laid the groundwork for the juvenile and meme-driven criticisms, which drown out the legitimate and clinical analysis as to why he would be a disaster.
For every post I read or comment I hear pointing out his lack of foreign policy experience, unpredictable behavior, and shady business dealings, I read 10 dismissing him as "cheeto" "drumph" etc. I see a complete failure to recognize his motivated bases' grievances, and then counter their misguided fear with logic and reasoning. We just assume 40% of the country base their vote on race or gender alone, when Obama just won two terms fairly handily.
It's obvious to DUers that a wall is the brain-child of a room-temperature IQ high school student. But it's not about the wall. It's about why a suggestion like that didn't lead to an immediate public shaming and exile.
These debates are exactly what we need. Unless the moderators completely shit the bed, the REAL reason there is only one choice will be exposed. Exposed in a way that...excuse me for this...."Joe Six-pack" can piece it together.
It's not about his hair or bad spray tan. Or his inability to clearly verbally relay whatever weird stuff is going through his head. His wife's speechwriter plagiarizing, or that he was on reality TV. It's that he has no idea what the f*ck he his talking about on a single issue. It's that he would disband NATO. That he is irrational and dangerous. That he in no way/shape/form should be the COMMANDER IN CHIEF of the most powerful war machine this world has ever seen.

(12 posts)Why is anyone worried about this. If Trump brings it up its a slow ball over home plate. If Hillary can't tern an attack like that into mince meat she does not deserve to win.
