(833 posts)I am going to watch Bloomberg.
My day time job is financial planner and I am CFP.
I do not like MSNBC in many way and I usually check Bloomberg for markets and economy
related news. They also have more women talking heads.
Mr. Bloomberg himself is a billionaire but he is the most vocal anti-gun movement sponsor.
Not all billionaire is completely evil.

(4,486 posts)News isn't meant to be entertaining, it is meant to be informative.
Imagine if we overhauled our school system in the same way we have overhauled out news media?

(13,110 posts)News shows would have to be declared and registered as "News".
News broadcasts would have a name, label, bug, whatever, that informs viewers that this is "News".
"News" would be subject to a reality doctrine with penalties imposed for violation.
Early violation penalties could be as simple as the broadcast having to inform viewers that it has been caught violating the rules, and broadcast corrections in the same vein they broadcast the original. No 5 sec at midnight, oops.
Ill call that probation.
More serious or continued violations and that show would lose its "News" label.
Nothing else has to change. Noone has to pay any fines. The public would know if it says "News" it is required to be factual.
This still leaves plenty of leeway for interpretation but if they want to say black is white, white is black, 3 is 15.
BAM. You no longer have a "News" label.

(11,619 posts)In reality, there should be a meter that rates the factual content of each statement, live and in real time, so viewers can see an independent source.
We have reduced a debate to "She said/He said."

(10,252 posts)She's capable of it. She knows her facts like the back of her hand. She'll probably start out very politely saying something like, "That's not accurate, Mr Trump." Then proceed to something like, "Once again Mr Trump, that's not accurate." Followed by, "Mr Trump, you can't just make up statements that aren't true. The American people need to know that their president understands the issues and the facts influencing policy decisions." Don't know if she'll call him a liar. Probably not, because that's impolite, and she's a lady and a diplomat.
I'm SURE that she will deal with his lies and BS. She has a strategy all worked out with how deal with it presidentially.

(8,203 posts)Hillary has been around the world negotiating - understanding the people she has had to influence on policy...seems to me - trump only has one SOP - attack and dismiss...sorry dumpy trumpy, not this time, not this place, not this venue, more than your haters will be watching...and that's all ya' got..haters..

(22,990 posts)People should pay attention to the 3 live people on stage, not the crawls.
But just the notion that "facts are irrelevant" blows my mind

(22,990 posts)that media will be competing with each other to be the best at it.
( That's the way it's supposed to work, anyhow )
Drunken Irishman
(34,857 posts)This is a big reason Trump was so successful in the Republican debates - he lied throughout the entire debate and, when things finally ended, the audience turned things off and didn't hear the inevitable questioning of his facts.
Some will remain, but on the whole, I'd wager once it's finished, the TVs come off.

(12,410 posts)and if Holt doesn't acknowledge agreement, come the second lie she should direct the viewing audience to turn to Bloomberg where fact checkers are monitoring both candidates.
That will put NBC in a tizzy.

You could let it run in fast-forward mode, with counter that goes "ding", and then announce the final, "Lies per minute" score.

All the fact checking they will be doing after the debate will keep them busy until after the election.

(7,869 posts)She is more than capable of calling trump out on his lies during the debates. She is smart, savvy, and surrounds herself with the best of the best. She's taken crap from the media most of her adult life. She knows how to get under his very thin very orange skin. He's a narcissistic sociopath...a bully..and every time she punches him in the face (figuratively speaking) he runs home to Fox. Like I said she's got this.
