He really couldn't help but succeed to some extent because Trump left things at the very bottom of the Marianas Trench. And it was a glaring contrast. Pence was clearly more adult and much less of a hyperactive adult-sized five-year-old. So how could he not earn higher marks. Maybe relievedly higher marks - along the lines of "well, at least BOTH of 'em aren't nutbags!" or - "well him I suppose I could live with because he isn't flat-out insulting people..." He'll get points for more or less adult behavior.

Eugene Robinson pointed out, though that Pence interrupted as much as Kaine did, but Kaine started it. They're talking about the the repeated denial of clearly and provably true facts and quotes. I'm really glad to see this! Steve Schmidt points out that the true accurate quotes and actual facts will be played back to disprove Pence's

Lawrence O'Donnell, too: "Mike Pence denied Trump saying something we have videotape of him saying."

Mike Murphy the GOP strategist said something I agree with: Mike Pence wasn't making a case for Donald Trump, he was making a case for himself, four years from now. He also said the big loser tonight is Ted Cruz, because Mike Pence just stepped in his way.

21. Watched it on CNN with my wife.

Immediately afterwards the talking heads all called it for Pence and then CNN went to the focus group. The focus group clearly called it for Kaine. Then the commentator jumped in and said that was probably because the debate was in Virginia and a lot of the people on their panel had previously voted for Kaine. CNN is an embarrassing fraud.

Pence rehearsed lines served red meat to his base, but nowhere did his message appeal to the center or the left. He was off topic over and over, having to be reminded to answer the question.
