Maine Sen. Susan Collins is urging Senate leaders to schedule confirmation votes on long-delayed judicial nominees during the post-election session, despite reluctance from fellow Republicans. Collins sent a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., calling for floor votes for some of the 19 appeals and trial court nominees whose confirmation votes Republicans have blocked since September.

President Barack Obama’s re-election last week has exposed an internal rift among Republican senators over whether to clear the way for confirmation votes on long-stalled judicial nominations during the lame-duck session or delay them until the next Congress.

Utah Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, a prominent Republican on the Judiciary Committee, predicted Wednesday that none of Obama’s 19 judicial nominees awaiting Senate floor action will be confirmed before year’s end. If they are not confirmed, the president must renominate them next year.

“That’s not going to happen in the lame-duck,” Hatch said in an interview. “That will have to wait until next year.”

Hatch’s position, however, is not shared by all his Republican colleagues. The list of stalled nominees includes several who have the strong backing of their home-state Republican senators. Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma, for example, are pressing for confirmation votes in the post-election session.

There is no rational reason why they can not have hearings and then put the people up to a vote. That is their job .......... Oath of Office and all that strange stuff

4. There are a whole bunch (19) of them that already had hearings and have been sent to the full senate

all they need now is a full senate floor vote - or even quicker a 'unanimous consent'.

A couple have been waiting since 2011 and many from the beginning of 2012.

8. The Dem Senators are doing their job, it is the GOP Senators that keep blocking the votes.

Without 60 'yes' votes for cloture there is nothing that the Democrats can do.

9. I was going to reply to you in a different way but decided

that I will restate: The Senate is not doing their job.

I know that if I had to put up with this republican shit for years I would be very angry. I would get on the Senate floor and tell the country who was to blame for shit not getting done. Every day I would get on the Senate floor and call out the republicans. If that did not get any where I would call up all the news stations and demand that they get me on their shows. I would demand equal time to refute the republican lies. If they refused I would get on the Senate floor and state this also.

The only way to defeat the republicans and force them to do their jobs would be to call out everyone in their blockage. The news networks have a obligation to get the facts out because the airwaves belong to the people.

So because the democrats are not calling out the republicans all the time, they are not doing part of their jobs.

No secret holds.

No single-Senator holds of any kind.

Bring all Judicial appointments to an up-or-down vote within 90 days of the nomination unless both parties agree otherwise. If there is no vote in 90 days, the appointment is considered approved by the Senate.

Reid has been much too kind to these piss ant Republicans. I mean, he made a deal with McConnell that he would change the filibuster because McConnell said he would use it only with careful discretion and what do we get? One filibuster after another. I was disappointed with Reid on this. He's tough on Democrats but much too soft on his "friends across the aisle".
