i am still suspicious about the nature of this attack and who is really behind it but i will wait for the facts to come in before jumping to conclusions.

When your opposition is hateful, small-minded, totally incompetent, and unwilling to change you do your very best to keep them as your opposition, rather than let them be replaced by someone better.

It's the "Dick Armey" theory of opposition leadership. Armey was one of the worst House Majority leaders ever, Democrats knew it, and they went to great lengths to ensure that Armey was never far from a bar or at a loss for a golf partner. They held a party for him when he retired, because as long as he was in charge, Republicans in the House were unorganized and ineffective.

Similarly, as long as North Carolina Republicans continue to work as little as they do, they're helping to build an era of progressive success in NC. So hell yeah, we want to help them continue to help themselves to a fourth martini at their Applebee's "meetings."
