2. I think the President must say something.

Though what approach he should take, I don't know.

My question is whether Loretta Lynch is truly Comey's boss and, if so, why did she not say a flat no to his announcing an investigation that had such obvious unprecedented ramifications? Usually, the highest administrator has the final say. Was she unsure enough to not stand by her instincts?

6. I believe that the Director of the FBI reports to the Director of National Intelligence

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_of_the_Federal_Bureau_of_Investigation#Responsibilities

"Along with the Deputy Director, the Director ensures cases and operations are handled correctly. The Director also is in charge of staffing the leadership in any one of the FBI field offices with qualified agents. The Director briefed the president on any issues that arose from within the FBI until the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 was enacted in response to the September 11 attacks. Since then, the director reports to the Director of National Intelligence, who in turn reports to the President."

The reporting structure for Comey report is that he reports to John Crapper who then reports to President Obama.

The Director of the FBI is appointed by the President but must be approved by the Senate.

5. I don't know if he has an obligation to weigh in on this or not but I would like it if he did

because Obama I bet would have some really interesting things to say about it & they would definitely be good ones.

7. Double edged sword.

President Obama has no obligation to weigh in. While he is the head of the administration, he is not directly in charge of the FBI, which answers to the Attorney General and Director of National Intelligence.

It might be good for the President to put things into perspective, but it might also seem like a blatantly partisan thing to do.

I am sure that silent but sure pressure is being put on to the Attorney General and NI Director to take this in hand.
