(Also, Lisa Bloom's law firm's website seems to be under attack. It's been down for much of the day.)

The California plaintiff, known only as Jane Doe, was scheduled to break her silence in a Wednesday press conference, but backed out at the last minute.
"Jane Doe has received numerous threats today, as have all the Trump accusers that I have represented, said the womans attorney, Lisa Bloom.
She is living in fear. She has decided that she is too afraid to show her face. She has been here all day, ready to do it, but unfortunately, she's in terrible fear. So we're going to have to reschedule. I apologize to all of you who came."

LOS ANGELESA woman who has filed federal lawsuits accusing Donald Trump of repeatedly raping her two decades ago, when she was 13, abruptly canceled a news conference Wednesday where she was to detail her extraordinary claims against the GOP presidential nominee.
In the most recent suit, Trump's accuser asserts that while she was exploring a modeling career in 1994, she attended a series of parties at the Manhattan home of prominent investor Jeffrey Epstein. She alleges that during those parties the real estate mogul raped her on several occasions, including one instance in which she says Trump tied her to a bed.
Attorney and legal commentator Lisa Bloom announced earlier Wednesday that the woman would appear at Bloom's Woodland Hills law office at 3 p.m. local time and apparently give up the "Jane Doe" pseudonym used in her recent suits.
However, at the appointed hour, Bloom said the news conference was off.
"Jane Doe has received numerous threats today," Bloom told the assembled journalists and TV cameras. "She has decided she is too afraid to show her face... She is in terrible fear."

(658 posts)...this was a very bad move given the timing. Ms. Bloom should have foreseen this and perhaps kept her client sequestered for the three hours from when she announced it on Twitter.
No way this will have impact now and instead may further the "fake victim" meme that the trumpster deplorables are spreading.

I work with teams of individuals who can provide transportation and security for all involved.
Do not show the bastards that their threats will work.

(171,090 posts)braintrusts supporting trump wouldn't be threatening, given their prior behavior? This seems so lame; makes me think it could have been a publicity stunt, and that's appalling.

she attended "a series of parties" and was raped by Trump "on several occasions".

Acknowledgement of rape or consensual sex on multiple occasions undermines her story either way.
It makes her into someone who was trying to sleep her way to success, who didn't like the way Trump treated her on their last encounter.
I believe her story, and sex with a 13 yr old is always rape, but this kind of a story can backfire.

(108,994 posts)I'm kind of shocked to read anyone on DU say that.
But as you say, a 13 year old cannot legally consent to any form of sex.

(8,760 posts)as a practical, political matter. That is what I am referring to.
if Trump wasn't running for President, it would be a different story.
The the resolution of the lawsuit itself will be decided on the evidence.

(24,654 posts)She was 13. Maybe she didn't have all that much of a choice in the matter.
She's female. Maybe she didn't tell anyone because no one would believe her so she couldn't give a compelling reason not to go back.
She's 13 and female. Maybe everyone around her assumed she was beautiful, vapid, and usable as an object so her thoughts on the matter were irrelevant.
She was a prior sexual assault victim. Maybe she was suppressing everything, dissociating, and praying it wouldn't happen again.
I'm not about to fucking second guess a teenage girl being manipulated by grown men. That anyone would is thoroughly repugnant to me. It perpetuates rape culture.

The fact that she is afraid of Trump is understandable. Sympathetic. Aren't most of us here afraid of Trump?
Expect to see a private interview now by a major news star, with her face hidden. This will stay in the news.
