(12,046 posts)At 7 EST lets see FL, VA go blue and GA too close to call and we can start the party early! Then OH & NC a 1/2 hr later just to be sure ... then its all about watching fools cry in Fox News...

(34,857 posts)But it'd be nice.
Virginia is the most likely state to be called for Clinton of the three you mentioned around poll closing. But don't anticipate Florida to be called until well into the evening. Here's the time it's been called the last four presidential elections:
2012: Called on Nov. 10th, 2012 - four days after the presidential election.
2008: Called at 11:16 PM - three hours and sixteen minutes after polls closed.
2004: Called at 12:27 a.m - four hours and twenty-seven minutes after polls closed.
2000: Called officially, and without any renouncing, on Dec. 12th, 2000 - over a month after the presidential election.
The earliest it's been called was during Obama's landslide, and even then it was hours after closing time before it was called.

(12,046 posts)Oh well who wants a 1/2 hour party anyway? I'll settle for a small amount of drama I suppose but if Florida drags on then I'm going to need a surprise to slam the door like say AZ at 9.

(34,857 posts)It's a weird state. It takes forever to call but you get an idea of what direction it's going well before polls closed.
Obama led in Florida in both 2008 and 2012 for a bulk of the night, despite an early McCain/Romney lead.
Bush led in Florida from start to finish in 2004.
But then, who knows? Turnout could be the deciding factor and Hillary might win it by a comfortable enough margin where it's called earlier than expected.
