A Trump supporter went after me unexpectedly

I was canvassing in Orlando, Fl. I have walked many precincts in many, many elections. Often, a neighbor will come up to me and ask why I am there. Several times, someone tells me they support the Republican and we go and we leave on decent terms.

NOT THIS TIME!!! Someone came up to me and when I said I was supporting Hillary, she went off on me. Absolute rage and hatred on her face! I have never had a stranger, possibly anyone, show such hatred and rage towards me. I am embarrassed to say that I responded and yelled back until I remembered that the best strategy is to walk away. Although, I did shout down the stairs when I heard her swearing at me.

This election is unlike anything I have ever seen in this country. Trump and the other Republicans have spent decades stirring up this rage. I'm scared for our country.

I continued GOTV because we need to win this!! I refuse to let hatred win.

I then went to see Obama the next day. That was a love fest with smiling, friendly, dancing supporters. Love trumps Hate.

I think it has been this way since the beginning of time.

When people behave like that it says nothing about you and everything about them.

Watching fox news and listening to right wing hate radio, like Rush Limbaugh. Over the years they become pretty much like the people they listen to, full of hate and rage. Trump just knew how to bring it all out for his own benefit, and he did it.

Small and large group dynamics are quantifiable, and people like this deranged woman might not have any idea that what they're doing is wrong, either legally or morally. Usually, when they don't get the result or the satisfaction they think they'll get for their actions, they come to their senses eventually and even begin to regret what they've done. However, if they even think that their status in a group is raised --or could be with more action--, they'll become even more empowered and bolder.

Scary stuff.

I had already voted and told her so, but she still continued to argue and disagree. I finally asked her why she wanted to argue. I specifically said that I knew anything I said would not change her mind, and that she wasn't going to change my mind. She didn't have an answer, but quickly unfriended me.

Her loss. My gain as far as I'm concerned.

But the reality was that she is unable to argue a point with facts. She wanted to scream and whine and out yell me and anyone else who commented. THAT is the Trump way of doing things. It's immature and it's exhausting. He has (literally) created an army of deplorables who are not happy if they are not arguing with someone.

from falsehoods. If they really had thoughtful reasons for their Trump support, they could behave in a civilized manner and have a conversation, but they've got nothing of substance.

Quite honestly, it reminds me of many (not all) religious people. They behave in the same way towards me when they discover I'm an atheist. They become hysterical and viciously lash out, accusing me of things that are false or stupid, such as I'm trying to trick them, I'm going to burn in hell for all eternity, or that I don't have any reason to live, and they'll stubbornly deny facts or reason. It reminds me of Trumpsters, especially how they'll claim climate change is a hoax, that 09/11 happened on Obama's watch, etc., yet believe in the most ridiculous conspiracy theories, such as Hillary is a demon.

When folks come to my door for canvassing purposes - I always point out the wing nuts that are lurking in the neighborhood. They don't always have signs advertising their politics but we all know who they are. I've got Dumpster A-holes right next door to me in our predominately liberal area of town. I've seen them yell people right off their porch. It is flat out disturbing. I'll steer anyone and everyone I can away from them. Least I can do.

And then press charges. That is harassment and verbal abuse. No one should have to put up with that. Tell the police exactly how you felt: scared. THAT is NOT OK. You did the right thing by walking away but it really makes me boil that you had to endure that. Arrrgh!!

Thank you for taking the time to canvass. You are awesome!

Was this on the east side, like Alafaya? I could see it anywhere but the closer you to get the fringe areas like Casselberry and Kissimmee, then to the east where Christmas is, there are quite a few deplorable who I could see this happening. And I wrote a few days ago, women seem to be doing a lot of the "we're going to rebel" (which stuns me any woman is for Trump), like the lady with Pence, and the woman with her husband where he said she doesn't mean that (to the reporter) and she yelled at him "yes it's what I mean".

Glad you got away, safely.
