We live in a community on tribal land and the tribe has tons of great fireworks. Based of the Clinton-Kaine signs on the reservation, we'll have a great show tomorrow night.

I just came back from my lunchtime walk through Times Square. I heard the sirens and saw all of the Emergency Vehicles around 7th and 42nd and was wondering what was going on. It seems that someone was shoved onto the subway track at the 42nd street #1 line station and tragically killed by on oncoming train.

This puts a damper on an otherwise uplifting day in NYC.

Worry. Worry. Worry.

Then I thought, well, maybe she canceled because she doesn't want to be boastful. The speech needs to be perfect tomorrow night - very calm. Can't incite riots of chaos.

Fireworks, in this day and age, are one of the stupidest things we do as a society to celebrate something.

At least we don't run around shooting guns in the air like they still do in some places. (well, most of us don't do that, anyway)

Fireworks are HORRIBLE for the environment, that is the stuff they're made of and deposit after being shot up. Did you see the image of New Delhi after their recent Diwali celebration, where they shoot off fireworks for days? On an average day the air is awful, after Diwali you can't even see buildings.

Then there's the noise, and what it does to animals and people with PTSD, and ferchrissake, anyone who just needs a decent night's sleep prior to their shift that starts early the next morning.

Yeah, yeah I get it's tradition, but it's a tradition that needs to be retired.

Oh and bah, humbug.
