2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI met Hernan at the mailbox today.
I was picking up my mail earlier ( have one of the metal community mailboxes in my neighborhood) and an elderly neighbor I've never met was there too. I said hello, and then he asked me how I thought "things" would turn out tomorrow.
I just stared at him because I do not know this man. Never seen him before in my life. Yet there he was, asking me that question at the mailbox.
I smiled real big and said "Well, it's going to be a beautiful day! We are going to elect our first woman president!"
He immediately started laughing and there we were, suddenly talking about the election.
I asked if he voted yet and he said "yes", then added "I hope you're right, we can't let Trump win."
I told him I was voting tomorrow with my daughter (it's her first presidential election, btw).
We chatted about the possibilities of Texas going to Hillary, with me hoping it would happen but thinking it probably won't.
Then it was his turn to flash a big smile at me, and he said "Texas will be blue and Hillary is going to clobber Trump if we (Hispanics) have anything to do with it."
Then we were both laughing again.
We introduced ourselves at that point and shook hands, then made a pact to meet at the mailbox at the same time on Wednesday to celebrate the results.
So I met my neighbor Hernan today, and made a new friend.
