Jill Stein needs more recount donations to overcome Wisconsins malicious price hike

Jill Stein was initially told by Wisconsin officials that the recount would cost approximately $1.1 million. But after the state tried and largely failed to sabotage her in court to prevent a hand recount from happening, it’s now trying a new approach: charging an insane amount of money for each of the counties that have agreed to do hand recounts. According to Wisconsin’s official election website, at the time this article is being written, Stein is now on the hook for $3,898,340 instead of the mere $1.1 million she was told.

Stein has already received more than $6.8 million in donations, so she has enough cash on hand to pay Wisconsin’s sudden ransom. But to do, she’ll have to tap into the funds that she had initially raised to pay for the Michigan and Pennsylvania recount fees, as well as the attorney fees which will be required to fight those two states to force the recounts. In other words, because she’s now being sabotaged by the Republican officials running Wisconsin, she legitimately needs more money than has been raised up to this point. Stein’s donation page is still active, for those who believe in the recount cause and are in a position to donate.

Just pointing out that in Palmer's story, he says that the court ruled first (he doesn't mention that they ruled against Stein) and that then when she wasn't stopped by the court, Wisconsin raised the price tag. That's not how it happened, unless there was a court ruling other than the one related to hand recounts that happened before the price went up. If there was, I haven't heard of it, but maybe I missed it.

Elections commission: Presidential recount to cost $3.5 million, expected to uphold Donald Trump win

http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/local/govt-and-politics/elections-commission-presidential-recount-to-cost-million-expected-to-uphold/article_db4c720b-e3a6-52b3-93f5-799e08d3e998.html

Wisconsin election officials estimated Monday it would cost $3.5 million to recount every presidential vote, while expressing confidence it would uphold Republican Donald Trump’s surprise win in Wisconsin, which helped him become president-elect.

Judge denies request for hand recount of Wisconsin's presidential election results

Recount could cost nearly $4M
The amount quoted to the Stein campaign was about $400,000 cheaper than the actual statewide cost estimate of $3.9 million. A spokesman for the Elections Commission said the estimate was based on a tabulation error of the 72 county estimates.

Here are the estimated filing fees and deadlines for each state:

Wisconsin: $3.5 million by Nov 25 (ADJUSTED Nov 28 to $3.5 million)
Pennsylvania: $500,000 by Nov 28
Michigan: $975,000 by Nov 30

Those are estimated filing fees alone. The costs associated with recounts are a function of state law, which can often be difficult to untangle. Attorney's fees are likely to be another $2-3 million, then there are the costs of the statewide recount observers in all three states. The total cost is likely to be $9-10 million.

So she's going a different way in Pennsylvania and to go (do the recounts) by precincts until the difference b/w Ttump & HRC hit 0.5%. Then the State has to do a full state vote audit/recount.

Stein already said she would prefer Trump over Hillary. She said it on C SPAN.

Stein is only paying a small portion of the costs in Michigan leaving taxpayers responsible for $$$millions. She is paying $900K while the estimated cost is expected to be $4 million.

Each individual county will be responsible for any costs above and beyond. I live in a small rural county. Really pleased it will cause my county to make cuts to services we all need.

You have yet to provide any reasonable proof that Stein is paying the full cost. This has been widely discussed here in Michigan since the recount was announced.

The Green Party nominee’s attorneys left a $973,250 check at the state Bureau of Elections to cover her legally required fees for seeking a recount of 6,300 precincts.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said Wednesday the recount cost could total $5 million, leaving the state and county governments on the hook for the remaining $4 million.

Johnson’s recount estimate is based on Wisconsin’s estimated $3.5 million cost for its recount, which, unlike Michigan, is being done largely by machine with 1.9 million fewer ballots.

Jessica Clarke, an attorney for the Massachusetts doctor, suggested Wednesday the Stein campaign may be willing to cover some additional costs. But she wouldn’t commit to the full sum.

“Right now, no one knows what the cost of the recount is going to be,” Clarke said. “Our intent is to do what we can to cover the cost of the recount.”
