President Obama is More Popular Now than During His First Term

By: Hrafnkell HaraldssonJan. 11th, 2013more from Hrafnkell Haraldsson

You’d think with all the vitriol from the right that Obama was the second coming of Satan, the least popular president in all of U.S. history, an usurper, not the recipient of two landslide mandates from the American people.

Instead, we find out that more Americans self-identify today as Democrats than as Republicans.

And not only that, but a president who is, despite all these attacks, is increasingly popular. Gallup reports that Obama’s current approval rating is 56 percent – or seven points higher than “the average of his monthly approval ratings (49%) for the first 48 months of his administration, between January 2009 and December 2012.”

Read that again. Higher than the first 48 months of his administration.

Yet the Republicans insist it is they, not Obama, who won a mandate from the American people in 2013. Obama is more popular than ever, and they are more popular than – meth labs and perpetual petty criminal Lindsey Lohan. And consider this: “Five of the seven U.S. presidents re-elected since World War II had lower average job approval ratings in their second than in their first term.”

The President ran a masterful campaign which was helped immensely by the GOP's total incompetence. Since the election, Obama has continued to act decisively and has been taking the fight to his opponents.

So, how could anybody be surprised by his popularity?

Obama is still in his 1st term right now, technically his 2nd term doesn;t start for a couple more weeks.

and standing up for stuff. Left supported him and right hated him but the middle likes him more now.

Its pretty clear who is screwing up finances in this country and having Obama stand strong on it is making big impact.

Coming back from vacation while congress didn't end of Dec also made big impact. Spoke volumes.

plutocratic pea brains will let them. But, all they're getting is lower ratings than cochroaches, nickelback and donald trump.

Poor cons.. they can't understand why corporatemedia isn't doing a better job in pumping them up and covering their lies for them.

It's all Obama's Fault!

Ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is something that surely has to make him popular. Look at all the lives/money lost over the past few years.
