Judges reject objection to Christie decision on U.S. Senate special election; say governor acted properly

The appellate division of the state Supreme Court has ruled against the plaintiffs and judged that Gov. Chris Christie acted properly when he decided to hold a special election on October 16th.

The court cited NJSA 19:27-6, which provides that if a vacancy occurs in the the US Senate the election shall take place at the general election next succeeding unless the vacancy occurs within 70 days next preceding the primary election prior to the general election.

"Without question, the Governor was authorized to call a special election in this circumstance, where the vacancy occurred one day prior to the primary," the court's decision reads.

The decision was a blow to a group championing the argument that the U.S. Senate special eelction should occur on the same date as the Novmber general election for governor.

1. This was a silly lawsuit. The law specifically stated the date, and

it has nothing to do with CC personally, and in fact, don't be so sure when Cory wins, that it won't have a positive
effect 3 weeks later.

It is just possible the CC fans will be so sure he wins, that they will stay home.
They may be caught off guard.

NJ is a strange place, where great people like Jim Florio and Jim McGreevey are tossed out and party bosses rule
(and the party bosses do NOT like Cory, which makes him even better as he is independent from them.

The best thing is to get a dem. back in office soon as possible, and I want Cory in in October.
Who knows what mischief the repubs can do til then with one less seat.

and CC could have just said NO primary, and then the smoked filled room party bosses would have named the runners, which would have been a lot worse, because again, the party bosses would not pick Cory in a million years.

The people of NJ want Cory.

3. The party bosses don't like Cory for a reason.

The party bosses aren't real keen on polemicist fiscal conservatives running as Democrats.

He's about as center-right "New Democrat" as you can be and not be publicly humiliated as a fake Democrat in the fine tradition of Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller. He even completes the trifecta...Miller was a morally conservative bigot, Lieberman a militarist who felt the answer to every US foreign policy problem was to bomb brown people and Cory Booker is so far up bankers' collective asses that Jamie Dimon will never need to pay for a prostate examination again. He's a vocal proponent of Reaganesque fiscal conservatism, Wall St. protectionism and shielding the banks from the consequences of their actions.

I don't know how any Democrat supports Booker unless they think the selling of America, disaster economics and the Wall St. crash were good things. We should be burning him in effigy, not electing him to the Senate.

Just like they got rid of Florio and McGreevey and Codey as governor.

5. Comparing Booker to any of those people is an insult to real Democrats.

Cory Booker is a vocal proponent of fiscal conservatism and bank-protection.

I don't know how you don't get that...then I realize, you do get that...based on your support of other corporatist Democrats like Hillary, you almost certainly unquestioningly support it.

8. Booker has 3 primary opponents

All of who are further to the left than he is (including two bona-fide progressives). Sure Booker's a celebrity, but I think his primary opponents are more qualified for the position than he is and have a lot more legislative experience.

Most of Booker's poll numbers are on name ID. All of the NJ Democrats I know (including myself) are supporting Pallone (I am) or Holt in the primary, each of who just received a county party's endorsement. Should Booker win the primary, I would vote for him in the general because Steve Lonegan is batshit crazy and I would do anything to stop him.

BTW I've been in those 'smoke-filled rooms' and it's really not that hard to get involved and have more of a say. (Assuming you live in NJ), look up to see who your local committeeman/committeewoman (each precinct has a man and a woman from each party on the county committees) is and talk to him/her. If the seat is vacant, you can either run for it or get your county chair to appoint you until the next committee seat election is held (next June's primary).
