Senate set to reject Obamacare delay as government shutdown looms
By David Lawder and Susan Heavey
WASHINGTON | Mon Sep 30, 2013 1:20pm EDT
(Reuters) - With just hours to go before a midnight deadline to avert a federal government shutdown, the Democratic-controlled Senate on Monday was poised to reject a funding measure that would delay reforms promised in the 2010 healthcare overhaul.
Senior Senate Democratic aides said the chamber would take a simple majority vote shortly after 2 p.m. (1800 GMT) that would strip Republican amendments and send a "clean" funding bill back to the House of Representatives.
The move tosses a political hot potato back to Republican House Speaker John Boehner, leaving him a choice of whether to accept it and keep government agencies funded or try another move to rein in President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law.
The latter action would all but assure at least a brief shutdown, because the Senate would likely run out of time to respond before the October 1 start of the new fiscal year.

(13,305 posts)1. How many repubs voting to reject it?
How many did the first time? I missed the actual numbers as I was out of town on business.

year's midterms. Need to fund AFA and get it going so this time next year the american people will be happy with it and then the dems can take back the house and control more of the senate. If the Rs want to shut down the gov't over this then so be it.
I wonder if Mr. Romney won and the democratic senate demanded
1) background checks on guns
2) more Environment Protection
3) ending farm and oil subsidies
in exchange for not shutting down the government.
Would the house Rs and Romney agree? If not, who then would they blame for the shutdown.
Certainly Romney would not negotiate with hostage takers, correct?
