I knew there was something I didn't like about this bible thumper something told me he was a right wing nut http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/04/29/pastor-joel-osteen-being-gay-is-a-sin/

(10,857 posts)Gay couples are usually DINKs, too (double-income no kids), since it's been made so damned difficult for them to adopt kids. Partly for that reason, among many others, most of the gay couples I knew were doing considerably better than their heterosexual friends.
What inspires me to write this is a particular couple I know. They lived together and looked into adopting, but it wasn't going to work. So, they cornered the market on an orthodontic procedure instead, and retired to a tropical island less than ten years later.

(10,479 posts)rich enough he can say anything he wants to say. I am so tired of people like him. All of them have forgotten what Christianity actually is.

(13,466 posts)That's what he is, that's what all like him are. They are a stage presence pandering to people who want to believe that if they hate the right people, vote the RIGHT way, send the actors like him money; then GAWD will bless them with entry into the world of the haves. It's a religion, just not the one they say it is.

(24,780 posts)Being gay is not a sin. Acting on being gay is the sin. No where In the Bible does it say it is a sin to be gay. The act is what is described as a sin. Just sayin' these RW preachers overlook that.

(86 posts)First Amendment says: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof
The Establishment Clause says the government cant establish a national religion, or force religious beliefs on people.
The Free Exercise Clause says the you can believe whatever you want, as long as you dont take away the civil rights/liberties of others.
Cool dude, believe that it is a sin. But just like we dont want Sharia law in the US, we dont want any other religious law mandated on the US. Thats why we have the Constitution.....the document that conservatives say they love so much, but somehow they miss the very first line of the very first rule.

(15,064 posts)extort money from people who are at a weak moment in their lives. There is not one television evangelical who is sincere when it comes to Christian beliefs. Not one. It is a business that sucks big money out of the economy tax free.

(37,152 posts)And it's no accident that they build their mega-churches in places where the people have been left behind by changing times and a bad economy. Even the placement of their churches is predatory.

(15,064 posts)With all of the problems in the Catholic church at least they generally operate some real charities. These televangelists are totally crooked and would lie to their own next of kin for a dollar.
polichick
(37,152 posts)Even when these organizations are outed - as the Catholic church has been outed for aiding and abetting pedophiles for generations - people continue to support and enable. Televangelists might as well be wearing t-shirts printed with the words "CON MAN" - and still people follow.

(4,452 posts)is a huckster whose only goal is making money. How much do you think it costs to put together that production and get it distributed to hundreds of outlets around the country? It ain't cheap and they wouldn't do it if there weren't a payback.
My ex's father was a minister and were it not for the tax breaks that let them build a rectory, they couldn't have gotten by.
There was no thing as an eight hour day. It wasn't just him that was expected to do whatever/whenever. His wife and children were always working to support themselves and the church and all the congregation.
Osteen and his ilk are probably hard pressed to work a few hours a day.

(135,425 posts)If he's really a Christian he should understand that this Christ guy he praises so much did not write those lousy "Scriptures" he makes such a big deal over.
They were written by women-hating, Filistine-despising, homophobes who wanted to keep certain elements of society down so they could keep all the power and influence to themselves!
This guy is a putz! A dumb putz, to boot!

(19,348 posts)It is a gospel of hate which the Evangelicals have been pushing since their unfortunate existence began.
Joel Olsteen and his ilk could have been and should have been dealt with 150 years back.
