The party has left him standing out front from day one pretty much.

Dipshit ran the country into the ground for 8 years, but his party got behind a unified message to support him - he is tough and resolute, he faced so many horrible things no on else has faced, he is the commander in chief and you don't question him when troops are in the field, etc.
