Morning Joe’s Joe Scarborough Gets Caught Telling Huge Lie About Ronald Reagan

During Monday’s broadcast of Morning Joe, host Joe Scarborough had to be corrected by co-host Mika Brzezinski after Scarborough had claimed former President Ronald Reagan immediately canceled a vacation and flew back to Washington after a Korean airliner was shot down by the Soviet Union in 1983.

The claim by Scarborough came during a discussion about President Obama and his administration’s adherence to a daily schedule in the face of crises.

Mika brought up a New York Times article by Michael Shear as a discussion point. She also added to the conversation by bringing up the recent comparisons that conservatives have made between Obama and their idol Reagan.

1. Tell us about Ronald Reagan and the USS Vincennes, Joe

the USS Vincennes, was in the Persian Gulf on July 3, 1988, as part of an effort to defend vessels toward the end of the Iran-Iraq War. When Iran Air Flight 655 was detected by the Vincennes, the ship mistakenly attacked, downing the flight and killing all 290 passengers.

President Reagan did not address the nation, instead issuing a short statement from Camp David on the day of the attack.

We deeply regret any loss of life. The course of the Iranian civilian airliner was such that it was headed directly for the U.S.S. Vincennes, which was at the time engaged with five Iranian Boghammar boats that had attacked our forces. When the aircraft failed to heed repeated warnings, the Vincennes followed standing orders and widely publicized procedures, firing to protect itself against possible attack.

Over time, it became clear that what Reagan called a "proper defensive action" by the Vincennes was perhaps better described as a series of mistakes.

The right wing "pundits" bully the republican messaging into the media at large.

It does not matter if they are flat lying, flat uninformed or flat deluded.

They scream and yell something that is positive for Rs and negative for Ds, the media at large either eats it up merrily or just lets it go. Whether it is wrong or not is not relevant, they never, NEVER, N E V E R are held accountable.

And, even if they are clearly wrong, the initial burst has the lasting effect.

When Bush was president and had his routines, and he had his routines, jogging, a VERY short work day, MORE vacation days, it was JUST WHAT THE COUNTRY NEEDED, an MBA running it like a business.

And, in their perverse way, this President NOT engaging in theatre, being no drama, as he should, is somehow his ENGAGING IN THEATRE ...

The republicans are raging dickhead scumbags, the media AT BEST is compliant and weak ...
