It's fascinating that U.S. News & World Report could write this article without once mentioning ALEC or the influence of Koch Industries, but they did. So they did a really good job of describing the disease, without mentioning what caused it:
Snip.....
Four years later, however, the state government is in meltdown, creating a toxic fiscal and political mess that will take years to mop up.
Splintered into conservative and far-right factions, the Kansas GOP is openly at war with itself over an $800 million, two-year budget deficit gnawed open by the tax cuts nobody wants to roll back. If they can't fill the hole by week's end against long odds furloughs of government employees will follow.

(4,407 posts)Sucks for the people in KS who didn't vote for this shit, but maybe they'll try harder next time. Maybe KS can go all Detroit, declare bankruptcy, and we can give it back to Native Americans.

(3,544 posts)Twice, if I recall. They knew just before the 2nd election what he had done to their state, and still put his ass back in there. I'm sorry, but they have it coming. I see it as an example of how the GOP will screw you at every corner.

(54,408 posts)The scary part is--now that they see it isn't true, they'd vote the same way again if the election were held tomorrow.

(148 posts)I'm in the liberal part of Kansas, AKA Lawrence. I'm surprised how much the conservatives I know, hate Brownback, but usually for the wrong reasons.

(54,408 posts)Viguerie wanted Cheneybush to balance the budget, but not by cutting military spending or raising taxes on the high earners. He wrote a book called "Conservatives Betrayed" (!!!!!!) basically saying that the less well off weren't suffering enough and they should go without so that the budget would come into balance. Detroit might look like Calcutta, but hey, we'd be in the black!
