"Republicans should be panicking right now..."

Mitt Romney Slides into Panicked Free Fall over Outsourcing Claims
Jason Easley
June 22, 2012

=snip=

What is stunning is that once again, the Romney campaign didn’t see this coming. They should have had their statement and defense prepared months ago. It is like they didn’t expect anyone to actually look at Romney’s time at Bain, and compare that to what he is saying on the campaign trail. The truth was revealed by what Romney’s spokeswoman didn’t say in her statement. She didn’t dispute the facts. She didn’t dispute the research, and she offered no explanation for Romney’s record.

Their half baked denial reeked of panic, and a campaign that was totally caught off guard. I am sure Romney will be heading to Fox News ASAP to attack The Washington Post, and try to put a spin on this.

His problem is that it won’t work. Finally, Romney’s critics have a way to make his time at Bain stick in the minds of voters. Mitt Romney sent jobs overseas. Romney can try to parse and explain, but he can’t counteract that one sentence message. It is clear and easy to repeat point that voters can take with them into the booth on Election Day.

Republicans should be panicking right now.

There’s little consensus on how effective the attacks on Romney’s record as a “vulture capitalist” will be with the GOP base or the American public in general. Steve M thinks the attacks won’t work since Americans are programmed to uncritically worship capitalism and speculates that any attempt to inject nuance into the debate will turn into the usual old “capitalism vs. socialism” false dilemma. He could be right.

The vulture may not be a pretty bird. In fact it may be downright hideous, with its head and neck coated in slippery gore. it's even worse when they vomit it all back up to feed their bald, blind, wriggling offspring. Sure you can smell one from a hundred yards away, and the scent is not unlike someone having dumped an ashtray full of Milwaukee's Best over week-old roadkill. Sure, they projectile-defecate, and I'll grant, they may be unable to exist at all without pecking at the unwanted remains of some other animal's meal. And sure, their bodies are refuges for all sorts of lice, larva, and gnarly microbes.

But they would still be insulted by being compared to Romney, because at least a vulture is an integral and valued member of its community.

So watch it with insulting the Aegypiinae subfamily, will ya?

“This is a fundamentally flawed story that does not differentiate between domestic outsourcing versus offshoring nor versus work done overseas to support U.S. exports. Mitt Romney spent 25 years in the real world economy so he understands why jobs come and they go.

I consider my self a rather smart person and I don't understand the difference, Mitt please explain.

Either way jobs left our country for another one.

yes he does, especially the "why they go" part, and especially when where they are going is overseas.

It's simple.

The jobs go overseas because Romney sends them overseas to steal a profit.

Mitt Romney’s financial company, Bain Capital, invested in a series of firms that specialized in relocating jobs done by American workers to new facilities in low-wage countries like China and India.

During the nearly 15 years that Romney was actively involved in running Bain, a private equity firm that he founded, it owned companies that were pioneers in the practice of shipping work from the United States to overseas call centers and factories making computer components, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Apparently China and India are not offshore according to the Romney camp?

Romney can't hide anymore. He has to go out there and talk about what he will do, not just bash the president. And after today seeing Obama speak after his speech yest. There is no race. He needs all that money from the super pacs, and all the cheating they could get away with, cause he couldn't win any other way. But they don't care how they win. Honor is not in their play book.

“This is a fundamentally flawed story that does not differentiate between domestic outsourcing versus offshoring nor versus work done overseas to support U.S. exports.

This does not seem like a flaw to me. It seems like a distinction without a difference on the part of the Romney spokesperson.

What real difference is there between outsourcing and offshoring. In both cases American workers are being replaced by foreign workers and that crushes the middle-class. Also, so what if those foreign workers are supporting exports. Could not American workers have also supported those exports?

I think most Americans will view this statement as a bunch of double-talk and add to Romney's problem with connecting with ordinary Americans.

Mitt "the Etch-A-Sketch Artist" Romney was an "Outsourcing Pioneer". Romney will not just be another Bush, he will be "Bush on Steroids".

Republican Policies

Some people blame Bush for the state of the union, but Bush was actually a good president in that he sought to bring Republican policies to fruition. The problem was not in the execution of these policies, but the actual policies themselves; Republican policies have produced a Global War -AND- a Global Recession!

Republicans are so incompetent BECAUSE they BELIEVE government is the problem; it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The video of RMoney touting his business skills, talking about how he would be better because he knows how business works and how to send jobs overseas, is an affront to kids coming up out of college looking for work, to people on or just off unemployment, to people desperately trying to hang on to their jobs....it just emphasizes that the guy is an asshole AND tone-deaf.

There are still people in the US who, when they hear BAIN, they think "Barbara Bain" the sexy, savvy female lead in the Peter Graves-Martin Landau hit TV show "Mission Impossible." RMoney has gotten a pass on a lot of his bullshit.

that Romney has put personal and corporate profits ahead of American jobs.

He's making a big deal about what a great job creator he will be.
But the article shines a light on his actual job creating practices.

Many people can't grasp "vulture capitalism" but they can grasp
American jobs being shipped out of the country.

The Republicans control the economy. They control the government. They control the machines that count the votes. They have also determined that Mitt Romney will be the next President. Once the mass media polls they control close the cap between Obama and Romney to a few points the rest will be history. Wall Street can do whatever money can by, and it has the money.
