How
the hell is Romney going to successfully argue that the American public should elect HIM as POTUS so that he can get rid of PPACA when he is essentially the architect of the law that he is vowing to repeal "on day one"? How can the GOP for that matter make the argument that they should run all three branches of government when it is something that they used to support? It makes them look like opportunists, hypocrites, or worse (I vote worse). They have NO viable plan to do anything about health care for most Americans, not even after they've had two years to write something on that "blank sheet of paper" that McCain said he wanted and come up with something different (and presumably "better" to them than what has already been done) and they've had nearly 20 years to implement their "alternative" plan to "Hillarycare", which was, interestingly, the same basic plan that President Obama signed into law and that they're having a meltdown over.
I hear Boehner again mumbling about keeping some provisions of PPACA but he was, of course, careful to mention that they need to tear the entire law to shreds first and then, maybe, they'll put some of those "goodies" back into law but I doubt it. Given the fact that they (most likely) have no plan for ensuring that these provisions will work sans a more comprehensive plan (which they surely do NOT have) and that they really have no spine when dealing with the teabaggers, whom they will probably get an earful from about any proposed plans to re-institute ANY provisions of PPACA, they will almost certainly eventually fold and do NOTHING.
What we need more than anything (as I hope the WH and Democrats realize) is a massive IN-formation campaign to help properly educate people about what the law does and, more importantly, does NOT do. I'm not certain that this issue will turn the election in favor of the Republicans but if we want to keep these reforms, we will need to fight tooth and nail to re-elect President Obama and at least hold on to the Senate (if not win back the House as well) until 2014, when the last remaining provisions of PPACA go into effect. The Republicans will fight tooth and nail to stop it- hence their rallying calls to defeat President Obama and Democrats at the polls in November. That is where we need to fight them and that is where we need to stop them.
