2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy this Latino supports Bernie Sanders and not Hillary Clinton:
Due to recent tone deaf statements that marginalize Sanders' existing minority support, I felt compelled to post this article and say a few words about my support as a Latino for Bernie Sanders and why I do not support Hillary Clinton.
I am proud to support a candidate who actually took the time to visit the fields and see first hand how migrant workers were being horribly mistreated and then spoke up for them. I am proud to support a candidate who traveled to Nicaragua to take a stand against U.S. imperialism under Reagan. Actions speak louder than words. I am proud to support a candidate who rightfully says the war on drugs has been a failure. I am proud to support a candidate who believes healthcare is a right, especially since this issue affects minorities in such a disproportionate way.
I am proud to support a candidate who doesn't need to be dishonest about their immigrant heritage to pander or flip flop and refuse to take a stand until it's politically expedient. I have zero trust in Hillary Clinton to be an advocate for Latinos and immigrants in general. I fully expect her continued support for violent right wing regimes and then to continue to turn her back on the refugees her actions help create.
I stand with Bernie Sanders because he stands with us.

(568 posts)Please explain how what he did is NOT a good thing.
The president is tasked with taking care of all Americans, not just wealthy Americans and not wealthy businesses in, say, India.
Thus, going among the people is a good move, if you care about all people.
In 2008 Senator Bernie Sanders and author Eric Schlosser joined the Coalition of Immokalee Workers in Immokalee, Florida to call for end to modern-day slavery and sweatshop conditions in Florida's fields.

(40,656 posts)stone, you better develop a good position on immigrants and follow it with action. The refugee situation in Europe and the Middle East is only the start. When starvation hits China, a couple of billion people will start walking. This Earth better care about all her people because there is nothing that is worth more than the lives of everyone. If you don't think so, consider how much stuff you take with you when you die.

(9,086 posts)Hillary Clinton Defends Call To Deport Child Migrants
Hillary Clinton this week defended her call to deport children from the U.S. who are fleeing violence in Central America.
Speaking at a press conference in Las Vegas on Tuesday, the former secretary of state and candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination said that deporting the children, many of whom are seeking asylum, would send a responsible message that would deter Central American families from sending their children to the United States.
Specifically with respect to children on the border, if you remember, we had an emergency, and it was very important to send a message to families in Central America: Do not let your children take this very dangerous journey, Clinton said.
Now that the border crisis has largely passed, however, Clinton said U.S. immigration authorities should focus on expediting the deportation cases of children and people locked in family detention.

Want to know why Clinton's State Dept. failed to help an elected leader? Follow the money and stench of Lanny Davis
Former Maryland governor Martin OMalley, considered by some to be the only real threat to Hillary Clinton, has joined Sen. Bernie Sanders to be the only two challengers to the former secretary of state. Republicans, whose seemingly limitless field seems poised for a Hunger Games-esque cage match, worry that a Clinton cakewalk through the primaries will leave her relatively unscathed in the general election against a beaten and beleaguered GOP nominee whose every foible will have been exposed.
And yet for some reason, GOP candidates lob tired Benghazi charges at the presumptive Democratic nominee during the short breaks in infighting. The issue only really excites the GOP base, and its highly unlikely that after almost three years of pounding the issue the tactic will work. Plus, House Republicans own two-year investigation into the attack absolved Clintons State Department of the worst GOP allegations, giving her something of her own please proceed, Governor arrow in the quiver if she is attacked from that angle.

Thanks for the post to refresh our memory about Lanny.
There's so much unfavorable ties that could be exposed about the Clintons and their associations (and probably will be down the line if she is the nominee) which is why those of us who lived through their Presidency don't want to go through it again.

The actual interview was interesting. She noticed there is more than just a keep them or leave them here problem. You should watch it, but stay away from that particular YouTube contributor. I'll be watching the polls and seeing who has a better chance of besting the strongest candidates in the Republican field. I tilt slightly more toward HRC than Bernie, mostly because of her activism on behalf of women. But, I'm not 'voting my conscience.' Screw that. Look what happened to the idiots who did that in 2000 with Ralph Nader.

(10,622 posts)Al they want is whatever team they chose to win, even if a player commits fouls or cheats to win its "go team go". Such sports enthusiasts do not care or will willfully ignore the cheating and fouls.
Most such people are not the ones getting screwed by the system that don't have enough food and worry about becoming homeless, THOSE THAT THINK IT SPORT just watch on their giant flat screens and root for their favorite player, even when that player cheats or are foul, er I mean commit fouls.
That's my take on it anyway, but I don't have the middle class and upper class comfortable life that can enjoy this thinking it is a sporting event and realize elections from local races to the presidency are life or death decisions affecting real lives - and the wrong choices can and have killed or impoverished millions of living breathing feeling people. By killing them outright in wars of political convenience (or profit) or starving them to death by enacting policies and laws that put people in the street to starve or freeze to death or by denying them healthcare because they can't afford the cost of actually using the insurance racket set up for those that prosper from the sickness and death they deal in.
