Related: About this forum"We give 10 percent of our income to our church every year."
Hmm. Since your income is a secret I guess we only have your word on that.
I wonder how your fellow Mormons will feel if it turns out you really gave 5%, or maybe 1%............
Was the income that you hid from the IRS in Switzerland also hidden from.....God?

(384 posts)Perhaps his conscience forces him to be more honest with God than he is with the IRS.
Wouldn't it be a hoot to see that he "claimed" $1,000,000 in earnings for some year but gave the church $200,000. Wouldn't that be like admitting that he lied to the IRS?

(1,588 posts)Only 2 or 3% of California is Mormon yet they funded approximately 50% of the opposition to Prop 8!
The LDS Church opposes and campaigns against government recognition of ... election precincts and 50% of the campaign funds to California Proposition 8 (2008). ..... in election precincts and as much as half of the nearly $40 million raised.

The Romneys donated to their church, all right, to preserve discrimination against the Gay community!

(384 posts)If it turns out he really was a part of some Amnesty program for his Swiss account, did he then go back and amend his tithe to the church for that year?

(39,451 posts)As proponents of same-sex marriage across the country planned protests on Saturday against the ban, interviews with the main forces behind the ballot measure showed how close its backers believe it came to defeat and the extraordinary role Mormons played in helping to pass it with money, institutional support and dedicated volunteers.
Weve spoken out on other issues, weve spoken out on abortion, weve spoken out on those other kinds of things, said Michael R. Otterson, the managing director of public affairs for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as the Mormons are formally called, in Salt Lake City. But we dont get involved to the degree we did on this.

What will Mitt Romney do retroactively if elected president?

(2,940 posts)They tithe because they are indoctrinated, because they believe they have to do it to get into heaven or whatever - not out of the goodness of their hearts. Plus, I imagine that much of this money goes to supporting their missionary work around the world, which is fine, it's what they do, but it's not helpful in the way food or medical charities are helpful.
This makes me like the Romneys less, not more.
