Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday proclaimed April 17 at the date of the special primary election to fill the vacant seat of former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz. The special general election for the seat will follow on June 12.
Under the law, Brewer had 72 hours to set the special-election dates. The clock started ticking when Giffords submitted her letters of resignation on Wednesday.
The U.S. Constitution requires a special election to fill a U.S. House vacancy. Arizona's last such election was in 1991, when Democrat Ed Pastor won the seat of veteran U.S. Rep. Morris Udall, D-Ariz. Udall had resigned due to failing health.
Earlier Friday, state Senate Majority Whip Frank Antenori, R-Tucson, announced that he will be running in the special election. Jesse Kelly, Giffords' 2010 GOP opponent, also has filed for the election and is expected to run.

There are plenty of peaks of insanity to hold our tent up for months.

Every seat counts toward taking back the gavel in the House of Representatives...
Hopefully a strong Democratic candidate will step up - *finger-cross*
