Hillary Clinton: 'I Can't Wait Too Much Longer' On Keystone Pipeline StanceDemocratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said on Thursday the Obama administration's decision on whether to approve the Keystone XL pipeline oil pipeline was overdue and she "can't wait too much longer" to say where she stands on the issue.
"I worked in the administration, I started the process that was supposed to lead to a decision, I can't wait too much longer and I'm putting the White House on notice. I'm going to tell you what I think soon, because I can't wait," Clinton told a town hall-style campaign event in New Hampshire.
Clinton, the former secretary of state, has not stated whether she favors approval of the pipeline.

What is "anti Clinton" about her own statements and if the statement is an issue why don't you express your concerns to the person making them?

2. there is free speech in this country
3. she is a major candidate for president of the u.s. she has every right RIGHT NOW to say what she thinks.
this is just another dodge to put off saying that she really supports it cuz she knows it will not go over well.

(7,865 posts)To sound like you care about something you don't, while straddling the fence to maximize support for your position, while not actually straddling the fence and clearly deciding to be on the side of industry.
Can you imagine how much messaging, creative writing, and focus group testing something like that would take???
Give the Clinton campaign a break.

(5,141 posts)Shes either lazy or feels like its in the bag, but she is increasingly phoning it in.
It may also be that she knows her goose is cooked and doesnt want to keep this up, but the high-priced consultants need to suck the last drop of blood out of her. I actually feel sorry for her, because I believe that is the case.

(1,846 posts)For anyone that has not researched this topic, here is a 5 minute primer on why the Keystone pipeline should never be approved:
There are few tangible benefits to the US as the pipeline will not connect to Midwest refineries and the crude will ultimately be exported:
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2012/0309/Inside-the-Keystone-pipeline-How-much-would-it-really-help-US-consumers
So those of us in the Midwest will pay more for gasoline as the crude from Alberta currently being railed into Midwest refineries evaporates.
OK, so we lose a little crude in the Midwest. Pipeline is safer than rail, so that's good, right? Well, no:
The following year, the watchdog group Public Citizen reported that dozens of anomalies, including dents and welds, had been identified along a 60-mile stretch of the southern segment of the Keystone XL pipeline, north of the Sabine River in Texas.
http://www.commondreams.org/news/2015/03/19/transcanada-whistleblower-spurs-new-probe-pipeline-giants-safety-record
And then there's this report on their professionalism in TX where the southern portion is already being built:
http://www.treehugger.com/energy-disasters/transcanada-whistleblower-keystone-xl-texas-will-leak.html
This is what it does to people who live where it leaks or spills:
Large quantities of diluted bitumen were spilled following pipeline ruptures in Marshall, Michigan, in 2010 and Mayflower, Arkansas in 2013. These spills, of at least 1.15 million gallons and 210,000 gallons, respectively, have proved extremely difficult to clean up. The tar sands oil that spilled in Michigan entered the Kalamazoo River, leading to the most expensive oil pipeline cleanup in U.S. history (now totaling more than $1 billion). After the spill in Michigan, the state Department of Public Health set up a broad surveillance effort that determined 320 people suffered adverse health effects, including cardiovascular, dermal, gastrointestinal, neurological, ocular, renal, and respiratory impacts. Similarly, following the Arkansas spill, air monitoring data showed significantly increased levels of benzene in the ambient air, and residents living close to the spill reported increased headaches, nausea, and respiratory problems. Despite these health concerns, the federal government has failed to promulgate guidelines for dealing with chemical exposure at oil spills and has not commissioned any studies regarding the long-term human health impacts of these spills.

This should not be a close one for HRC.

(45,251 posts)before she has to say, whereupon, she'll find reasons to be in favor of it. Her State Department approved it while she was Secretary.
Same with the TPP. She called it "the gold standard."
Suddenly, though, she doesn't know what to say about either issue, which are hot buttons for the base.

(19,537 posts)... to avoid huge fines for Transcanada's "lost profits". She's probably worried that this process won't happen until election time (since she's assuming she's the "anointed nominee" and put pressure on her to commit to signing such a bill to avoid the U.S. getting their debt increased substantially if they have to pay these TPP fines, and Obama looking to pass the buck to have a bill signed to her, or the prospect of her "friends" complaining that a Democratic congress will prevent such a bill from being passed in 2017 if it lasts that long, and then to keep them happy she'd be forced to use executive action to implement Keystone rather than waiting for congress to pass a bill for it.

Just say it: "I am in favor of TPP because....100 jobs for 4 years?...I don't give a damn about harm to the nation's largest aquifer?...my investors won't let me say what I really think?...I'm not a scientist so I really don't understand all that science stuff about climate change and the tar sands?
