In throwing their support to Newt Gingrich, a group of Florida tea party leaders risk throwing away their clout and credibility, observers of the movement say.

In all, more than 30 Florida-based tea activists signed on to the coalition. The geographically diverse representatives ranged from the Panhandle to Broward County.
Separately, the TEA Party of Florida, the only political tea party registered with the state Division of Elections, endorsed Gingrich.

"If Gingrich loses, the tea party is over," predicted one veteran tea party activist from South Florida. "If he loses, what does that show you about the clout of the tea party?"

No matter who wins in Florida it seems like a win-win for President Obama and the Democrats. The GOP is in disarray regardless. I wonder what the Teaparty will do if Romney appears to have a lock on the nomination. They could revolt and run a 3rd party candidate just to make a statement. That would be wonderful.

Let's concentrate on electing some progressive Dems to Congress, shall we?

However, it is very possible Paul will run 3rd party. He refuses to rule it out entirely.

The rushpublicans are a mess and getting messier as this demolition derby of a primary season slogs on.
Yep, the teabaggers are starting to realize they were a convenient prop 2 years ago and now they're being swept aside and feeling like they've been used...and not going quietly.
This party isn't fractured in two but in three; counting the Paulbots. This is gonna lead to a fun convention...no matter who wins the party loses. The circular firing squads we're seeing now will grow in size...and we have Gneut to thank for all this.
DCBob
(24,689 posts)However, I do fear a brokered convention where they can bring in someone new and wipe the negative slate clean. It might not work anyway but it does give them an opportunity to change the dynamics.

(31,706 posts)Jebbie booooosh is damaged goods as long and isn't this magic unifier like some here think he is. Those who support Gneut or the Paulbots aren't going to accept a Jebbie in place of their "hero"...and many could/would stay home or go with a third party.
A brokered convention would totally fracture the party as all the delegate votes would mean nothing and I don't think that would go over very well with the teabaggers and others who will feel the game is rigged against them.
Yep, it would change the dynamics for the worse for them...
DCBob
(24,689 posts)Anyone who seems reasonable like a Jeb Bush or Mitch Daniels would benefit them greatly... imo.

(31,706 posts)If the teabaggers aren't going to accept a Mittens why would they take a bush or daniels who are also seen as "establishment". The wounds being self inflicted right now are deep and won't go away quickly. The only people acceptable to the teabaggers would be a palin or the corpse of raygun....and those people, along with the Paulbots equal a solid 10-20% of the rushpublican base. If those people stay home it doesn't matter who the GOTB runs...they'll lose.
