2016 Postmortem

Well, the email story is pure idiocy, but give credit to the Hillary Clinton campaign for handling it so miserably. If it wasn't for them, Bernie Sanders might not be doing as well. Let's hope she keeps her team intact. They are sure to go through her her money quickly and be able to offer up excellent theories as to how she can still win even after Bernie wins the South. They will also have superb insight on how she managed to lose the election to a white Jewish Socialist from Vermont. She certainly is the kingmaker -- Obama in 2008 and Bernie in 2016.
But, the email issue is a ridiculous one. First, ironically Republicans are arguing that Hillary should have trusted the government, not a private email service. This, despite the fact that the government has as many leaks as a sieve, regularly leaking out government secrets, social security numbers, and all sorts of other information. Second, the fact remain that Hillary's use of a private email service caused no harm -- neither our foreign affairs nor our national security were in any way compromised. There was a reason why officials in government were allowed to use private email -- it didn't do any harm. Obama didn't revise the rules until 2014, well after Hillary left her position as Sec'y of State, and those rules were mostly changed for archival purposes, not security reasons.
While the email issue is absurd, what it underscores is how ineffectual Hillary Clinton is as a leader. She's put together an team that seems to be incompetent. With her team, bad news lingers and good news quickly evaporates. I like Hillary and will certainly vote for her if she is the Democratic nominee, but the fact is one of the reasons I support Sanders is because, like Obama, he can run a competent campaign. Hillary apparently can't.

(15,800 posts)Consider that when Dwight Eisenhower retired from the army he had to be shown how to use a desk telephone. Not knowing that basic skill was hardly a repudiation of his leadership skills.
Your opening is sufficient: "Well, the email story is pure idiocy..."
Time for something substantive.
