heard on Ed last nite about the newest meme it immediately struck me that, once again Karl Rove's patented defense mechanism of 'attacking their strength' is in play.

We believe that Medicare is an absolute winner for us, and in general terms we are right. But the Rethugs have now decided to attack our strength, literally lying about Medicare. ("Obama is stealing 716 Billion from Medicare' while we want to save it'.

I for one am afraid that it's just simplistic enough to convince people, particularly the low information voters. People tend to remember big numbers, in or out of context and there is unfortunately just enough of a grain of truth in it to make it plausible. And for DUers who might poo poo the idea, I invite you think back to 2004 when the Rethugs were able to convince a whole lot of people that John Kerry, a genuine war hero was in fact a coward and that Shrub Jr. was some kind of a military hero.
