2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs anyone even complaining about the "chains" thing aside from obvious Team Romney partisans?
And CNN media sycophants?
Serious question.

(5,420 posts)for a party that likes to think themselves tough, they sure do whine and cry alot, don't they?

(13 posts)Because nobody posting here b1tches and whines in every post....it's the nature of humans to whine about the other side. I see it here every day, and I see it from the other guys too. No one has the market cornered on whining unfortunately. I believe it's what comes from a society that feels it's more important to bolster self-esteem than self discipline and self responsibility. When you have no discipline or responsibility for yourself it's easy to whine about everything seeming unfair to you.

(5,420 posts)I don't see any on this side trying to be the big bad ass and then weeping ie Bohner, Ryan.
It says hi but bet it's a bye.

(13 posts)More's the pity then, when we can't identify our own flaws it skews our perception of the flaws in others.

(19,458 posts)but honestly, is this how you make new friends? You come in and insult us and tell us how flawed we are? Thank you... a little introsepction on your own flaws would be welcome.

(13 posts)You are insulted because a poster made a comment that the Republicans whine and cry a lot and a respondent pointed out that so do the Democrats? It's true so why would that be insulting?
And then when the person making the whining comment says he doesn't see that the Democrats do that at all, then another response indicates that the inability to recognize the flaws on our side might skew the perception of flaws on the other side and you think, while not even involved in the exchange, you were insulted...that's interesting to me...
My flaws are many and will be obvious no doubt, I make no claims otherwise. No need to give me the benefit of the doubt, I assumed an exchange of observations was expected, didn't realize we were in a mutual admiration society and a contrary opinion would create a controversy. If so, no worries I can just lurk and read and keep my opinions to myself.
My best to you for a sparkling rest of the day.

(46,758 posts)But at some point, if they don't have something positive to say about Democrats, it does tend to create confusion since this website supports the democratic position AND this is an election year. People are more tolerant about pointing out the flaws of the party AFTER the election is won, when we have more time to focus on something other than getting reelected.
Trust me when I tell you that you are benefiting from months and months of lobbying to allow newbies a fair chance to get into the flow of this website. Welcome to the website.

(13 posts)I appreciate the heads up, I suspect the site tends to be one that will not be for me ultimately. I am more moderate than what I see being posted. Best of luck in your efforts this fall I will keep my head down and my comments to myself.

(19,458 posts)I think that the Romney campaign should ditch the buses and just get a few WAAAAAbulances to follow them from event to event.
A presidential candidate does NOT whine and cry like a little baby. Is that how he'll govern? Will he pout if North Korea says something he doesn't like? Wil Boehner cry? Will Ryan make a pouty face???
This is a comment board.. it's where you go to discuss and complain. NOT the Presidential campaign that seems to operate on ONE frequency only, pick ONE sentence out of context and spend days and days, with dispatched surrogates and press releases and sound bites, to attack the President and Vice President, for one thing said in a speech. How fucking juvenile is that?

(193 posts)On Romney's part. He wants so badly to stoke racism. Guess Romney doesn't realize that we already knew Obama was black when we elected him our president. the USA has grown up, the GOP should too.

(25,415 posts)or even mean (omg, he was mean!) is that Repubs have a long history of being both racist and mean. And Biden was speaking about how big banks control people, not about slavery. Romney is desperate because he has nothing else to run on and has a tax problem and the medicare issue. Most people don't care, aside from the media (they are bored) and Romney and Repubs.

(13 posts)You do realize the Democrats were against the Civil Rights Act in 1964 don't you? And that it was 2 Republicans (Republican Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen and Republican Whip Thomas Kuchel) who broke the filibuster by Democrats stalling the passage. For his work in breaking that filibuster Dirksen was presented an award by the NAACP. Also you are aware I sure that JFK voted AGAINST the civil rights act of 1957 (a purely political move placed ahead of personal beliefs but true nonetheless), before becoming one of our most beloved presidents.
Biden has made other comments regarding the necessity of an accent of Indian origin if you intend to go into a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts, this is not the first time he has make a comment that is questionable. I don't think this current rhetoric rises to the level the Repubs like, but Biden has always been a liability when it comes to speaking eloquently.

(24,438 posts)most of whom folded into the Republican Party eventually. How has the Republican Party been since 1965 in regards to racism?
BTW the Romney Campaign, RNC, and Sean Hannity thank you for reminding everybody of this and keeping the whole "Biden as a liability" meme going.
Jennicut
(25,415 posts)and mention that he was a Repub? It has little meaning today in 2012 what party he was from. Southern Dems that were in power in the 60's are gone and were replaced with equally if not more so racist Repubs. I am talking about the history of Repubs in the last 10 years or so of racism. Look how they have been toward Obama. Birthers?

(13 posts)Certainly some middle age white guys, but you can include Rochelle Riley of the detroit free press (not exactly a bastion of Republican thought) as someone who feels it was stupid and wrong for Biden to say those things.

So maybe she's not the only black woman who thinks it was not Biden's best move....

(14,180 posts)have yet to hear anyone black or white complain about Biden's remarks.
It's a manufactured incident from a tired out bunch of old white Repigs who have nothing substantive about which to criticize Obama or Biden, so they criticize Biden's use of a figure of speech ("chains" and construction of a conceit around that same figure of speech. (Romney wants to 'unchain,' i.e., deregulate, banks. Those banks in turn will put the audience back in 'chains,' i.e., reimpose too-high interest rates, continue with onerous mortgage practices and so on.)
Talk about a tempest in a teapot. They should be damned glad Biden was using garden-variety metaphor and not calling Romney a 'tax cheat' or worse.
