2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAn Appreciation Thread for the Benghazi Committee
I am at a loss as to how to fully express my gratitude to the Benghazi Committee for holding this hearing today.
As a result thereof, the American people have been afforded yet another glimpse into the mindlessness of Republicans, and their determination to waste the taxpayers time and money on bullshit.
In addition, American voters have now seen the intelligence, courage and fortitude of the Democratic Partys current front-runner in action.
Above all, any and all delusions about a potentially fatal split within the Democratic Party due to their support of two different candidates as our nominee (Clinton and Sanders) have been forever quashed by the fact that while we may disagree amongst ourselves as to who best represents our values and objectives, we are of one mind when it comes to defending our own against the lies perpetrated by the GOP.
Sanders supporters have rallied around HRC today. And Ive no doubt that were it Senator Sanders being subjected to this kind of witch hunt, HRC supporters would be equally quick to take his part against any and all Republican idiots.
We Democrats will undoubtedly resume our in-fighting tomorrow morning over which candidate should represent our party in the 2016 election. But tonight we are ALL Hillary supporters in the same way we would ALL be Sanders supporters tonight, were he the one being grilled for hours over alleged wrongdoings completely fabricated by a party that apparently has nothing better to do with its time.
So a heartfelt thank you to the GOP for so blatantly demonstrating that it has nothing to offer the nation other than lies and innuendo, for giving we Democrats the opportunity to display how quickly we can stand united when anyone is under attack by the GOP, and for letting the voters know that Hillary Clinton has what it takes to be the next President of the United States.
Our gratitude knows no bounds.

(19,460 posts)This Hillary supporter would be the first in line to support Bernie Sanders against the GOP and their scumbag ilk! Wonder what Bernie would have said to Roby if she had asked him if he were home alone all night?

(12,675 posts)Except maybe Jim Webb. That guy is effing creepy, and I have thought so for years, since I used to live in Virginia and watched him on the local stage. Eww.

(8,379 posts)They sure know how to shoot themselves in the foot. Not that I'm complaining.
And I, too, would absolutely support Bernie if he becomes the nominee. I don't have any dislike for any candidate, I just have preferences.

(35,699 posts)The Republicans are going to spend the next 9 years flailing at Hillary Clinton, trying to find something, ANYTHING to bring her down. And they will have no more success than they had with Obama.

(7,809 posts)People got so sick of the Rethuglican scandalmongering in the 1990s that it made them like Bill even more than before. Cons don't ever seem to learn from past mistakes.

(7,809 posts)She was calm, intelligent, and mature. The Rethugs were openly hostile, repeating questions that they wouldn't let her answer, and openly baiting her for the "gotcha" moment that she never gave them.
Did anyone else notice in the last hour when Gowdy was grandstanding? First, his face was so shiny that it looked like somebody sprayed it with shellac. Second, there was a guy sitting behind him that was peeking around the side of the chair. When he finally stopped peeking, you could see the top of his head just a little behind Gowdy's chair. Let's just say that they could use a little help in staging.

(1,325 posts)I'm rooting for Bernie. I don't hate Hillary. As I heard on the radio today, all that was missing was "I'm Hillary Clinton, and I approve of this message!" It's always fun to watch one "girl" kick the stuffing out of a bunch of bully-boys. How about a new bumper sticker: My Secretary of State kicked your Congressman's Ass!

(4,023 posts)Since my move from NYC to GA in March of this year I have not been checking-in with DU as frequently as I did before. Back then it was always a pleasure to read your posts. Once again, your thoughts have not let me down. I agree completely and am also grateful (even if still astonished by the buffoonery) to the latest GOP Benghazi Investigation for showing us who they really are and who is far more qualified to be the next POTUS over any of their candidates. I must admit that I have been leaning Bernie, but today I found a new respect for HRC. I will gladly support either of them to be the next POTUS.
Any Democrat or Bernie before any GOP RWNJ!

I would echo what Nance says here - if it were Bernie in the crosshairs, I'd be there yelling and screaming at them and posting all kinds of shit about how unsavory they are and idiotic they are and mean-spirited they are to persecute that poor man. That's how I felt about that committee (other than the Dems on there) when they were persecuting Hillary.
What I also liked, btw, was the language that various reporters have been using, either on camera or in print, to describe the hearing yesterday. Word choices like "inquisition" and "ordeal." GOOD. Good-good-good! Further to push the framing! Plant those seeds and let 'em take root! All the better for perception management.
