2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI have been a Bernie Sanders supporter since he announced that he was running
and I will remain so, but when the primaries are over, I know that the odds favor Hillary Clinton. I just want to say that I believe her testimony before the cretinous repug political opportunists yesterday will go a long way toward solidifying support for her when the primaries are over. I'm not just talking about sympathy either. She handled those dickheimers -for 11 hours, mind you - with grace and aplomb. People will remember that.

(146,295 posts)that entire hearing. The Republicans tried to shake her or cause her to become visibly angry. They failed miserably.
I'll tell you what that means to me: Presidents have to engage all sorts of people while in office. A cool head and the ability to stick to the facts is more valuable than most people can imagine. Unshakability is one of the most important assets any President can have. It is key to all sorts of discussions and negotiations.
It's almost impossible not to notice Hillary Clinton's command of herself in a tough situation. Given the job, that's crucial. She continues to have my support, and that has been reinforced by her demeanor yesterday in the face of a continuous attack.
She will make an excellent President.

(32,623 posts)In 04 I gave my whole heart to Dean's campaign. I was crushed when the media took him out in one night with a badly miked video clip. His talents were soon proven by his efficacy as DNC chair.
It isn't over. Go with your heart now and we'll work together regardless.

(81,243 posts)It's so encouraging to see all this evidence that we can unite - against one common enemy. And if not completely, now, then definitely in the future - especially facing the general election, when we're going to need unity the most.
I'm already on record as saying I will vote for Bernie if he beats Hillary to the nomination. And I still feel that way.

(12,081 posts)waiting for them when they get out. I will not vote for Hillary. I don't care how she performed in front of the Republicans in the Benghazi hearing.

If jobs and college are REALLY your issues, then how do you think not voting for the democrat is ever going to further them for you?

(12,081 posts)Let's just leave it at that, okay?

(14,915 posts)Message board. Be sick of the argument all day if you want, but you don't get to just say silly things and not get challenged on them.

(12,081 posts)You do not get to tell me who to vote for. No one does.

(9,314 posts)There is a difference between politics and civics. In civics classes, one learns one does have the right to abstain from voting if there is not a candidate one wants to support. But if one does abstain, he or she should not complain about the results of the election and/or the consequences.
In politics, that right to abstain is ignored in favor of the arguments being made on this thread. I am very much a political junkie. I also loved studying government and civics, and I personally would never let anyone talk me into voting for a candidate that I honestly could not support. And since we all have the right to keep our votes private, I certainly would exercise that right if I abstained from voting in a Presidential selection while posting on DU.

(11,833 posts)We tell our friends. They tell their friends. That's one reason I don't bad mouth democrats (even the ones I don't plan to vote for in the primaries). I want others to know that democrats aren't the primary problem in this country. It's republicans and their policies.

(62,270 posts)It might make good airplay for a TV spot but other than that no one will remember or care. And if she goes up against Trump as someone who never had to make tough decisions in his life he can throw out a lot of crap against her votes and her positions. IWR and taking SuperPAC money will be tough sells.
