Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Tuesday condemned the actions of a South Carolina school resource officer who attacked a high school student sitting in her chair and then dragged her across the floor.
Video of the incident went viral on Monday, and Clinton tweeted that the actions of the officer, Deputy Ben Fields, were unacceptable.
One of the girl's classmates was also arrested for disturbing school and released on $1,000 bond simply because she burst into tears following the event, WLTX reported. The classmate, Niya Kenny, said that she was standing up for the girl who was attacked.
Fields has been placed on administrative duty and banned from school property. The FBI has also launched a civil rights investigation.

(407 posts)I live not far from Spring Valley High School, and have ridden past it many times. It's a very big High School, especially considering the population density of the area.
This is a story that really hits me where I live. I'm distressed about the way some local officials are trying to make this the girl's fault somehow. Yes, she apparently disobeyed a school policy, and then did not submit to the teacher's response. When did that become a crime? Even the Sheriff is quoted in the paper as saying that the officer had 'certain levels of force' to use AFTER SHE HAD BEEN ARRESTED. Arrested? For misbehaving in class?
I've seen those videos over and over, and all I can say is that there is NOTHING an unarmed high school girl who never left her desk could have done to deserve that kind of treatment.
But we need to go back further. Why was there a sheriff's deputy in the school? What was he supposed to be doing? Why did the administrator send for the officer? Is this standard policy now, to make school discipline a criminal matter?
I am utterly baffled by this, but at the same time, to quote someone who spoke about this at a school board meeting today - If anybody thinks that a white female would have been treated the same way, then I think you live in a different world than me.
