2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRick Lazio made the mistake of treating Hillary like the little woman who can be easily dismissed.
We all know how well that worked out for him. Hillary's intellect far exceeds that of most of her contenders, and she doesn't faint at tough questions or even vicious insults. Far from it. She just methodically and brilliantly lays out her counter arguments. And like what occurred to the Benghazi morons, her attackers fall like dominoes.
Regarding the matter of sexism, I'm not referring to Bernie in particular. I believe he is a brilliant and ethical man, who normally would not engage in such low blows. However, I sincerely hope he does not fall prey to sexist tactics, based on the urging of his advisers. That would be beneath him.
Mainly I see the Rethug nominee, whomever it may be, as likely to fall into this lethal trap. Even, or maybe especially, I believe Fiorino would play the sexist card, because she thinks she can get away with it. But Fiorino is not likely to be the nominee, so one of the male clowns will become the beneficiary of Hillary's laser like responses to any sexist attacks, dispensing said clown with ease, just like Lazio.

(26,549 posts)Defeating him was about as difficult as defeating a 6-year-old in armwrestling.

(26,549 posts)The point is you can't use that victory to claim she has super powers, as the OP does.

(16,286 posts)I dont see it
I see this
that bother you?
jeff47
(26,549 posts)Clinton showed competence in defeating Lazio. She did better than Coakley, for example. But that is far from the brilliance attributed to her in the OP.

wHO SAID SUPERPOWERS?????????????????????????????
We deserve to lose to the WOMEN KILLING teaparty if this shit keeps up...
You and me, we are done
jeff47
(26,549 posts)You are a perfect demonstration of the disintegration of DU during the primaries. The OP is claiming Clinton is a genius, far more intelligent than the mere mortals she faces.
That is claiming she has super-powers.
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)and capacity to not just hold up, but win, under adversity. No super powers implied.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)What is it you would expect a "normal" person to do under those conditions?
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)Somehow you can't admit that Hillary has any positive qualities, and keep putting her down as basically next to nothing. Hmmm, that does ring some bells. Anyway, I will no longer engage in this idiotic exchange with you. Bye.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)because it's not unusual for anyone at that level of politics to be able to "withstand" a dumb stunt.
That is very far from "she has no positive qualities".
Btw, enjoying VanillaRhapsody's emails?
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)stick his face in her face and basically try to shut her up. Hillary, as usual, just politely smiled and carried on. That was a classic moment in staring down sexism.

(16,286 posts)I dont remember it, I am just posting here because of the endless negative comments about Hillary
I have to do this because the alternative wants to kill Women and I want to avoid that
(Not Bernie, of course, he isnt the alternative who wants to kill Women...for those looking for ANY REason to hide my post_)
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)It was an amazing encounter.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)He objected to all the DNC and other "outside" money going to Clinton's campaign, and wanted her to sign his "no soft money" pledge. He literally walked over to her podium and stuck the pledge in front of her as a stunt.
Which kinda demonstrates just how lousy a candidate Lazio was.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)You're claiming Clinton is special because she didn't react in some particular way. What, specifically, did you expect her to do when Lazio waved his "no soft money" pledge in her face?
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)You probably think she badly bungled the Benghazi hearings.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)You're claiming she did something special in that debate, demonstrating how great she is. What would the "not-special" response be?
MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)I'm very intelligent, but as a young(er) woman I did tend to crumble under male aggression. Hillary is, and always has been, tough as nails. She's not above the rest of us, but I'm guessing her IQ is in the Very Superior range. That's a level of cognitive ability that very few are in. And no, I haven't tested her, lol, just giving you my professional opinion/observation.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)Since you have to be fairly tough to survive to that level of politics anyway, I basically expected a "not-crumble" response. Someone who couldn't hold up to it (of either gender) would not make it that far.
It's not like I'd expect Warren, or Sibelius, or Albright to shrink from stunts by Republicans (and they didn't against the respective stunts they faced).

(81,856 posts)And Pataki was governor. So not necessarily neon.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)I'm having trouble coming up with any, but I could easily be overlooking someone.
Anyway, Lazio was the replacement for Giuliani in the race. He started late, had comparatively little money, and ran a bad campaign. Including stunts like the "no soft money" pledge-shoved-in-face at that debate. Defeating him shows competence, not greatness, IMO.

(62,325 posts)Repubs concede they cannot win a Senate seat. I supported Hillary in that race. Lazio was a joke, with no real political career.
He sure wasn't someone who would be taken seriously treating anyone like a 'little woman' or whatever. That was one of the easiest victories ever. Before the voting even began.
