on his show.

Neil Young's Alabama is still one of my favorites.

Neil Young has more talent and brains in his little fingernail than all of Lynyrd Skynrd put together.

If Lynyrd Skynrd and their teabagger friends are the last of a dying breed, it will be one breed I'm happy to see go extinct and it can't happen soon enough. The sooner they're gone, the sooner the rest of the world can live better.

Bad arena rock for aging redneck Boomers.
In other words, perfect for the GOP.

The only living members from that era are Ed King, Artimus Pyle and Gary Rossington and only Rossington is in the current line up.

For all intents and purposes (especially for modern audiences) the current unit is nothing more than a cover band that has rights to the Skynyrd name. The fact that they release new material from time to time doesn't really change that fact. In truth, I'd be surprised if anyone but a hard-core fan could name even one album the band has released since the plane crash.

Ronnie Van Zant may have been an a-hole but he'd be spinning in his grave if he could see what his band has become.

I used to like a couple of their tunes, but now, fuck 'em.

The Allmans on the other hand, are one of my favorite sources of music.

It's at a private fundraiser and they're not there to support Mittens, they're there because he's paying them half a million dollars.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynyrd_Skynyrd#Members

Current members
Gary Rossington – guitars (1964–1977, 1979, 1987–present)
Rickey Medlocke – vocals, drums, mandolin (1970–1971), guitars, backing vocals (1996–present)
Johnny Van Zant – lead vocals (1987–present)
Michael Cartellone – drums (1999–present)
Mark Matejka – guitars, backing vocals (2006–present)
Peter Keys – keyboards (2009–present)
Johnny Colt – bass (2012–present)

Only one person from the original band - Gary Rossington. Rickey Medlocke was an old timer but really only played 2 years and then left for over 25 years. Johnny Van Zant's claim to fame was that he was the younger brother of Ronny Van Zant and even then Johnny didn't join the band until 10 years AFTER his brother died in that tragic plane crash.

Ronnie Van Zant was a democrat that supported Carter in '76. I believe they played a benefit for his campaign. As far as the band being compared to the Allman Brothers, it's pretty much apples and oranges. Skynyrd was mostly a hard rock band, and the Allmans a blues/jam band with some jazz influences.

The original band was a great band. What's left is not.
