a big idiot. I thought the guy was going to stroke out, he came running up to my car and starting jabbering some garbage. He asked me what I was going to do when they took all my money. What the hell. Then he said you're going to be on welfare. Crazy. His eyes were unexplainable. I finally told him that I do work and I said if you're finished now, I have some advice for you. Stop watching FOX news. By the way, I'm in Kentucky, for some reason they always go Republican for President and they are especially crazy since Obama got elected.steve2470

(43,867 posts)I would have just told him to fuck off. Nah, just kidding, I would have been worried he'd damage my car. I think you handled it the best way possible in such a circumstance.

(50,130 posts)That's an odd thing to say, from someone who hates the government handouts.

(109 posts)Here's a similar incident that happened to me in the final year of the Bush occupation. I had an "Impeach Bush" sticker on my car, and one day as I pulled up to a stoplight a big 18-wheeler came to a stop right behind me with air-brakes screeching. In my mirror I saw the driver, a big bearded Hell's Angels-looking guy, open his door, jump down to the ground, and head towards me. I knew it had to be about the sticker, so I was a little apprehensive when he rapped on my window and made the roll-down motion. As soon as it was down he shoved his paw through and said, "I want to shake your hand!" Which I then gladly did. Before the light changed he told me he was a Vietnam vet who liked Bush at first, but now believed he was destroying the country. He thanked me, I thanked him, and we both drove off. So, it works both ways.

(16,847 posts)I've never heard of a liberal running up to total strangers to berate them about the stupid stickers on their cars. Maybe it's an evangelical mindset. They think it's their mission in life to spread the teabag gospel.

(22,897 posts)They all carry the biggest chip in the world on their shoulders-- they're extremely defensive, and oftentimes that shows up as rage. They're so jealous (among other things) that Obama has done so well, even though they've done their best to sabotage everything he's accomplished.
Wonder if he would have accosted you if you had an Obama sticker on your car?

(2,850 posts)and I would put them under windshield wipers of cars with shrub bumper stickers.
(see deceptiondollar.com) After issue #11 came out I haven't been doing such things...
I have spoken up in gas stations about politics when I see right wing supporters too.

(13,467 posts)I live in Kentucky and I haven't been accosted over my sticker yet, but it is in the back window, and I do live in Lexington which, along with Louisville, is more sane than other parts of the state. And I live near the university, which helps.
I would imagine it will get even rougher here as we get closer to the election.
I am so sorry you had that experinece in my home state. We have a lot of idiots here, but we have some cool people too. Kentucky used to be overwhelmingly Democratic with lots of union guys. But the preaching in the Churches have really taken a toll on people's sanity.
