2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs Hillary the Democrat's Mitt Romney?
Or the 2016 John Kerry or Al Gore to a certain extent...
- Low likability
- Sold during the primaries mostly on the idea that they are the most electable and presidential
- Supporters not as passionate
- Both have problems looking authentic
- Both look like rich elitists that aren't in touch with the people
An article that supports this idea

JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)... toast. He's been complaining about how tough the Senate is.
If he can't handle that, he's not going to be inspiring anyone.

(27,787 posts)Cruz is to fundie nuts to win ...
Trump speaks to the loudmouth RW base, so he could win their primary. But past that, he won't do as well as even Romney did. He'd never survive a debate with Clinton or Sanders.

(12,655 posts)when the question was asked, i was thinking, who is a young, well spoken, not super experienced senator who has the potential to capture attention and win the nom?
rubio came to mind. i am not equating the two, but rather wondering who could fill an obama like role in the gop

(3,649 posts)Romney was notorious for changing positions in order to benefit his campaign. Hillary is doing the same.

(22,308 posts)Her problem isn't just that she does not look authentic, she has a history of being dishonest.
The only hope we have of her winning is if the (R)s put up someone even worse than she is. The odds are that even is she does make it in, she will lose big in 2020 and hurt every (D) on every ticket in the country just when we need to take control of state governments before the next census and districts being redrawn.

Hillary 44%
Obama 22%
But what's real fun is to look at the trajectory:
