Al Gore is not ready for Hillary. At least, not yet.By NICK GASS * 11/10/15 * Politico
"It's still too early, in my opinion, to endorse a candidate or pick a candidate," the former vice president told People magazine Tuesday in an interview to preview his 24-hour climate-change telethon, which starts on Friday.
Gore, who has in the past described Clinton as "extremely capable," went on to say that any predictions about how the race will turn out would be "premature," adding that the "election is still a full year away. I think I'll wait to wade into it."
The Democrats' 2000 nominee gave no indication that he would make another run for the White House himself.
"I have taken no steps whatsoever in the direction of a candidacy and my answer has been the same for 10 years now or more and you probably heard my answer before: I'm a recovering politician and the longer I go without a relapse, the less likely one becomes," he told the magazine.

(19,326 posts)you could take it as the Left-handed complement it is.
i.e. the conventional wisdom says "Gore will endorse Hillary" at some point,
which is sort of implied by the headline.

(34,648 posts)I have no prob with him going for Bernie.

(19,326 posts)I'm sure if Gore had endorsed Hillary today, Hillary fans would barely have noticed nor cared;
and there would be nary an OP about it.

(34,648 posts)Millennial. Did not care for Gore. Or Kerry.

(19,326 posts)You and I actually agree on something. Imagine that.
But actually I do think his work on climate change helped to
wake us up, so I'll give him that.

(59,503 posts)All Democrats should vote for Clinton in the General election. Both 2000 and 2004 were very important and both Gore and Kerry were and are decent men. Kerry was to the left of HRC and he had at least as good a record with human rights issues.

(59,503 posts)Given your question now, it sounds like you might be under 29 - thus unable to vote in those years - which opens the question of why you thought it necessary to diminish them.

(80,708 posts)Ive been accused twice, now, in the past week or so, of "not being a Democrat" (not to mention the mile-long list of other undersirable traits that come with the maligned stain of "Sanders supporter" because I dare to express support for Sen. Sanders in the primary process.
So I'm sure all the real Democrats here agree that Former VP Gore is, likewise, a real Democrat, so expecting him to endorse Sanders is unrealistic, not to mention he would be thrown out of the party, the way some people seem to deludedly believe they are entitled to do to folks such as myself.

(59,503 posts)It would be suggesting that Al Gore, Bill Clinton's VP, who knows Hillary Clinton more than almost anyone in politics was so much more likely to endorse anyone against her -- that Gore, one of the most conservative Democrats when in office was EXPECTED to endorse Bernie Sanders.
Note that in 2008, Gore endorsed Obama only in mid June 2018 -- after the primaries ended with Obama having more delegates than Hillary Clinton. This suggests that he was stayed neutral and then endorsed the nominee. The difference this year is that everybody and their grandmother are endorsing HRC.

(17,656 posts)The wag for this part ----> " . . . Gore endorsed Obama only in mid June 2018."
Do you see how in 2015, that doesn't make any sense?
Karen, Karen, Karen, how could you ever make that kind of a mistake?
And a tip of the hat for remembering when Al Gore endorsed Obama.
And to think I thought I was the only one paying attention when Al made his ground-breaking endorsement that year.
In June.
After the primaries.
HA!

(17,656 posts)I think this says about all that needs to be said about Hillary's chances of ever getting in to the White House.
He was Bill Clinton's Vice President for both terms, and yet he prefers to wait until later to endorse someone.
I think this speaks volumes about just how afraid Gore is to incur the wrath of the Clintons for endorsing Bernie now.
chillfactor
(7,575 posts)I think you are hoping Gore endorses Bernie....i would not count on it.....I think Gore I just waiting to see how things work out...a bit early for Gore to be endorsing anyone.

Apparently in Bernieworld, Hillary and all her supporters are TERRIFIED of Sanders, but everyone else is afraid of Clinton. High blood-pressure world you guys live in, dude. Talk to your doctor about Calan.
Major Hogwash
(17,656 posts)There is no other reason why Al wouldn't come out and endorse Bernie at this point in time.
okasha
(11,573 posts)What exactly, pray, is he afraid of? Getting his tires slashed? His house wrapped?
Or perhaps he just wants to keep all channels open with President Clinton and Senator Sanders as his signature cause is finally getting some serious traction in the political arena.
Major Hogwash
(17,656 posts)After what they did to him when he ran for President?

(25,586 posts)Al fucking Gore isn't afraid of the Clintons. You're starting to sound like the republicans when they spent a decade trying to convince America that Bill and Hillary had Vince Foster murdered.
Y'all are taking the term "silly season" altogether too literally.
