I can't believe Clint Eastwood would be shilling for these LIARS!!

I know he's always been Republican but i thought he was a proponent of the SANE EISENHOWER type old school Republican....how how how can he push the likes of Paul Ryan?? I will be so disappointed if he does this.

I was an Eisenhower Republican when I started out at 21, because he promised to get us out of the Korean War. And over the years, I realized there was a Republican philosophy that I liked. And then they lost it. And libertarians had more of it. Because what I really believe is, Let’s spend a little more time leaving everybody alone. These people who are making a big deal out of gay marriage? I don’t give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of.

His previous girlfriend, Sondra Locke, had to sue him for his "misconduct," which included physical abuse.

"In the pricey boutiques and tree-lined streets of Carmel-by-the-Sea, that picture-perfect town on the West Coast 25 miles north of Big Sur, residents who tire of waiting for the great California megaquake may now brood upon a small seismic social shock—the suing of former Mayor Clint Eastwood, 58, by his frequent co-star and constant companion, Sondra Locke. According to the suit, filed in Superior Court in Los Angeles, Locke, 41, suffered "humiliation, mental anguish...severe emotional and physical distress and...mental and physical harm" during their 11-year relationship, including two abortions and a tubal ligation allegedly done at Eastwood's request."

My dad is also a republican,he is 78, and like Clint is an old timey republican.I think you hit the nail on the head.

A recent study that came out said that older people are easier to fool based on changes that occur in our brains as we get older..

Sure, he'll make a speech but what if it criticizes the GOP?

Not that he'll praise Obama, but what's to stop him from pointing out the "anti-GOP" (his version of what the GOP should stand for) ideals that have permeated the party in recent decades.

Just speculating...

But I'm wondering if he'll get up there and wax philosophically about his life as a Republican, and throwing out a few times something like, "But, the 'Party of Small Government' should stick to that ideal and refrain from legislating women's health..." Then he'll go on about traditional GOP values, and then say something like, "And we all need to remember that we value personal responsibility, so we need to hold accountable those individuals who ruined our economy..." and so on...

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but he's speech might reflect less on the GOP and more on his Libertarian beliefs (and we all know what the GOP did to Ron Paul).

I can't help remembering that Superbowl halftime commercial he did and I was taken in by it. Then to find out it was a 'hoax' really ticked me off. That and the fact I've never liked him as an actor has, admittedly, made me biased against him. Maybe you're right! Hope so.

He's NEVER going to praise the President, or anything that is slightly Democratic.

I don't understand why people on DU today seem to think that Eastwood was ever a Democrat. He never was even close. He's all about his own money...

I think Clint is just using this to promote his new film. He is not even close to being a true conservative.

And like Duvall, I give him a bit of a pass. And really California conservatives are an entirely different animal than the kind we have here in the bible belt.

I've met a few east (NYC) and west coast (LA/San Diego) conservatives and I always make a point of telling them if they spent a year or two among the kind of cons we have here they'd be thinking twice about which party they identify with. Most of them have no concept of the differences until its pointed out to them.

He is not a moderate republican in the least. He only says that about gay marriage because he's anti-everything. He was never ever even close to a Democrat. He's alll about personal rights, and anti-big govt.

The idea that he's pushing that Romney is his choice because "America needs a change" as I just read elsewhere.. is just fucking ludicrous. But then again.. Eastwood is filthy rich, too.

and old white guy prejudices vs. immigrant prejudices. Surprisingly good movie.

I almost wonder if this is Clint's way of one-upping Spike Lee when Spike pulled the race card on Clint
when they both had WWII movies comeing out at the same time. I think Spike's newest is set to drop soon as well.

Just smells like sheer opportunism. Wonder how much Romney paid.
