There are five online electoral college odds makers (538, Predictwise, Betfair, Intrade and Smarkets), which currently show on average Obama with a 65% probability of winning and Romney with a 35% probability of winning.

Why can't we just executive order it away. Seems to be a phony mechanism used by republicans to steal the election.

The right will find a way to steal a victory like 2000. It's a flawed system.

you'd need an amendment to get rid of it and there is no way that the small States would ever vote to give up the extra power this gives them in Federal politics.

even if you could get 2/3 of the Senate and 2/3 of the House of Reps to OK it you need 3/4 of the States to ratify it. Right now the Electoral College gives a pile of extra power to States with tiny populations like Wyoming. These small States would fight tooth and nail to reject the amendment and I don't see 38 States ratifying it.

I'd love to see an end to this archaic rule too but it won't happen soon.
