This is it, folks. We are now entering the final phases of the Republicans, War on the Truth, and ultimately, it's, War on America.

No need to recount the details, but if Mitt Romney's over-the-top, disgraceful, lying and hateful distortion of the truth surrounding this latest attack on the US embassy succeeds in taking hold in the American consciousness, then president Obama's reelection campaign is destined for failure, as is the entire Republic of the United States of America.

If it can be demonstrated that the most hateful, egregious lies and distortions are willingly accepted by the American public or can sold to them by the sheer force of repetition, then democracy is dead in the United States.

Should this happen, the nation will be shown to be under the influence of big moneyed interests, and those who believe that lying, voter suppression, distortion and hateful divisiveness are all acceptable tactics to be used in a quest for power on the other will be vindicated.

The election of Romney will be nothing less than a reward for ruthlessness and a triumph of ignorance and mean-spirited hatemongering and at that point the already strained "melting pot" will no longer melt. We will no longer be one unified people working together for the common good but two deeply divided nations occupying the same land.

And as Abraham Lincoln said, " A house divided against itself cannot stand.” We've seen the same situation in other countries and, thanks to a deliberate policy by the radical right, that same situation may soon exist here.

But the other side of the coin is that if the American public sees this for what it is..that will be the end of Romney

.anyway my post only said "if" this can be sold "then" that is the end of the US..If Americans reject Romneys charge that is the end of him...I am going to amend the post to add that final line..

Have you not read that Romney is doubling down on this lie? Are you unaware of the the power of hate and the right wing media? You seem to have and attitude that "if cant happen here." That such distortions are so hateful even the Republicans will be repulsed.. that is very naive in my opinion..

And Repubs are not repulsed by these lies..Rince Priebus just repeated them..and so did Sarah Palin..no sense of shame here..

Did you ever think the Birthers would get as far as they did...and the notion of death panels in the health care bill..and dozens of other hateful lies about Obama would take root?

You are being very naive and are ignoring the entire history of the past four years if you think this cannot happen and that Republicans cannot or will not try to sell this idea..

I hope you are right..I REALLY DO. ..but I dont underestimate the power of the far right..
