Ron Paul supporters, OWS protesters join forces to harass Gingrich, Santorum

On Monday, militant Ron Paul supporters joined forces with Occupy Wall Street protesters to harass former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.

Fox News reported that Gingrich was forced to cancel an appearance at his New Hampshire campaign headquarters when Ron Paul supporters and Occupy Wall Street protesters swarmed the entrance:

About 40 protesters showed up Monday evening carrying placards reading "Ron Paul" and "Occupy." One played speeches by presidential candidate Ron Paul from a loud speaker.

Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond says the former House speaker's private security detail decided to cancel the event because of security concerns regarding the entrance and exit to the building.

I only went to my local occupy once. They're nuts, their ideas are nuts (if they actually have ideas) and their cult leader is a homophobe, antisemite, racist and a misogenist.

Edited out a damn apostrophe horror.

6. WTF?

No supporter of that homophobic, anti-Semitic, racist, misogynist is my political friend. No matter what economic class they're in.

9. Believe it or not

Some of the people you demonize voted for Obama because they thought he was the better choice for the country. And some of them are still your allies whether you acknowledge them or not.

People are going to have a choice, whether to look past differences to find common interests, or to be eternally split 50/50 and let the bankers control everything by default.

I'm done living in a debtocracy and I'm willing to team up with anyone who shares the goal of putting an end to it, regardless of any other differences.

17. 'Regardless of any other differences?'

You mean that you're prepared to support someone who hates social safety nets and is prepared to let the poor or sick die, just because he's the enemy of some other people who also hate social safety nets and are prepared to let the poor and sick die?

All right-wing politicians are scum. All who campaign against government provision of healthcare and other public services are scum. By all means, let us welcome the divisions on the Right - if the supporters of Paul, Gingrich and Santorum all turn on each other, that is great! But that doesn't mean that the supporters of Paul have any common interests with left-wingers. The former want a libertarian jungle where the weakest go to the wall; the latter want a welfare state and greater economic equality. The two visions have nothing in common.

8. And what if the enemy of your enemy is also the enemy of your friends? ...

... such as gay people, black people, etc.?

After all, is not the logical corollary of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," the statement that, "the friend of my enemy is my enemy?"

12. The trick to dealing with the crazy is to at a certain point just mock.

If it's true, it'll sting...I'm all for being nice if they're receptive to widely reported facts, but once you get into denier territory you've got to break out the sharp tongue.

18. So in other words, the complete opposite accusation.

Ron Paul has FAR more in common with other Republicans than with those who are not on the Right.

The whole problem with established left-of-centre and liberal individuals and groups is that they have tended to compromise too much with conservatives. Blair with Bush. Clegg with Cameron. Obama engaging in too much 'bipartisanship' with congressional Republicans. This generally means that the Right sets too much of the agenda. How is it going to help matters if the anti-establishment left starts engaging in similar bipartisanship with perhaps even viler right-wingers?

7. Why not Romney? Paul is playing politics

That's the only reason he's being friendly to Romney and it's sad to see him use the Occupy Wall Street movement to help him do that

Nothing whatsoever.

19. Exactly!

Some Paul supporters may well glom onto OWS, and other, demonstrations; but that does not mean the viewpoints have anything in common. Whoever wrote that headline was probably either (a) anti-Occupy; (b) pro-Paul; (c) pro-Gingrich and Santorum; (d) some combination of the above.

14. That's an anti-Occupy propaganda headline spawned by Fox News.

Ron Paul supporters have nothing to do with Occupy.

Their corporatist beliefs and message are the total opposite of ours. They are a misguided cult of personality that needs a leader.

Occupy is trying to eliminate rule by corporation and has and needs no leader.

Just because they show up to make themselves visible at Occupy events does not mean that we have joined forces with them in any way, shape or form whatsoever.

I'm sick and tired of this anti-Occupy propaganda that tries to create a meme that Occupy is somehow associated with Ron Paul and that cult of personality.
