Let's not get overconfident

Recently the news for Pres. Obama's reelection chances has been awesome

His poll numbers are rising, romney is making gaffes left and right, and Democrats have seemed to reach close to the enthusiasm levels of 2008. Even on this discussion board some people are talking about his victory being a sure thing- but we must not get too overconfident.

We can't afford potential pres. obama voters becoming complacent and thinking that their vote is not needed since the President has the election in the bag. That's why we should still approach the election as a toss-up and continue helping out in any way that we can- whether its donating money to the campaign, helping local campaign office, or just spreading the word about Pres. Obama and the great things he has done for our country

I don't mean to be a debbie downer or anything like that- I just don't want us to have a repeat of 2004 when many people in Ohio admitted to not going to vote after they began hearing that Kerry was leading

50 more days- once we clinch the election then we can truly celebrate!

Tricks being pulled that have been found out only by those who keep track. Many millions don't pay attention until near the elections, and they will be surprised when they are turned away. Or be shocked if Romney is elected, as his pals in state governments have bragged will happen with the voter ID laws they have put in place to give him the presidency. Many people are very busy and don't have a clue as to how widespread the Tea Party's laws in legislatures have been. They can't go out and stand in lines at bureaucracies for hours, take days off work, or if elderly, not go at all. The Tea Party has passed laws to prohibit the sort of registrationd drives that informed and registered folks. They've openly flaunted procedures that were enacted decades ago and taken for granted, disenfranchising many millions. The word needs to be gotten out person by person as the media is leading those vulnerable to being denied to the terrible realization that the vultures have won the election and will steal everything they worked to have.

Democratic Primaries this year because we had an incumbent President, those idiots refused to cast a vote on other candidates, other issues and a few on DU even post that there was NO Democratic Primary this cycle, and I think they believed that to be true. Idiots.

So as Obama's poll numbers grow, more people will turn out to vote for him. People who voted for him last time will vote for him this time. And as R$'s numbers go down, more rw'ers will say "f- it" and stay home. If R$ were more dynamic, he'd be energizing a base to get out the vote, but instead he's flailing and letting more and more people down.

There's still a lot that can happen- that can't be foreseen, including turnout on Election Day and the effect of Voter ID laws and other attempts to suppress the vote. I'm not particularly worried about Romney winning, mostly Obama losing.

We've got some close races (like here in Wisconsin) and we've got to deliver big turnout. Regardless of how well or poorly Obama might be doing in that state.

Focusing too much on Obama, and ignoring critical senate races would be a big mistake. Money and volunteer hours are probably much more important to the Senate than to the president at this point.

It makes no difference that Romney and Ryan are incompetent buffoons. That doesn't matter to Republicans. They could run Yogi Bear and Boo Boo and still be guaranteed 42% of the vote. We have no such advantage. Adelson, the Kochs, Rove's group and Murdoch's Fox will provide a billion dollar advantage we will never make up for in money. And, as has been pointed out, many of our Congressional candidates are struggling because so many of our resources are concentrated on the presidential race. For the sake of the Supreme Court, we MUST retain the White House. Rove knows this as well as anyone. For this reason, he knows that if he can't be the one doing the nominating (as he was with Roberts and Alito), then he can be the one blocking, if he takes the Senate.

President Obama is anything BUT complacent. Believe me, I got this straight from the man himself (no joke, in case you missed my thread last month). He is obviously getting as big a laugh as any of us at Rolls-Ryan's gaffes, but he knows as well as anyone what kind of advertising a billion dollars can buy. So do David Simas and Pete Rouse. Between the three of them, that is a LOT of reality checks.

I've been beating this drum for a while. We KNOW the opposition are working on as many ways to cheat as they can come up with, so any significant lead we might have could well be frustrated when it comes to actually voting in key areas.

We've got the momentum, but now is not the time to relax and let up on the accelerator.
