Related: About this forumPoll: 20% of Dems would defect for Trump
The best reason yet Hillary Clinton should not be the Democratic Nominee....
By Sarah Ferris - 01/09/16
The willingness of some Democrats to change sides could be a major problem for Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton this fall.
The new figures were released by Mercury Analytics, a research company with clients that include MSNBC and Fox News, as the result of an online poll and dial-test of Trumps first campaign ad.
A smaller number of Republicans say theyd vote for Clinton about 14 percent.
Ron Howard, the companys CEO and a Democrat, said he expected Trumps first campaign ad to have little impact or in fact negative impact on Democrats and independents. But the ad actually resonated with Democrats more than he expected.
About one-quarter of Democrats said they "agree completely" that the ad raises good points, with another 19 percent agreeing at least "somewhat."
The challenge to Hillary, if Trump is the nominee and pivots to the center in the general election as a problem-solving, independent-minded, successful 'get it done' businessman is that Democrats will no longer be able to count on his personality and outrageous sound bites to disqualify him in the voters' minds, Howard said, according to U.S. News & World Report.
The company surveyed about 916 likely voters this week. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.

(168 posts)In a GE, that would be a considerable amount &...
That's why they headlined it that way.

(3,316 posts)Trump gets a net 6% of voters per the poll; much better than the 20% that your OP suggested

(28,749 posts)I can see a pretty clear difference between the two, and I don't resort to "she was a republican teenager!!!!!!" forget what's she has done for the past few decades.
Can't wait for Bernie Sanders to bring up how Hillary was a republican when she was younger at the next debate... Oh wait... He won't. Because it isn't a real issue, it's a smear.
Plain as day.
Change is a normal part of being human. Contrary to old wisdom, change doesn't stop at adulthood. Cognitive research has shown that change continues at every stage of life, right into old age.
I've never begrudged "flip-floppers". To the contrary, I applaud them.

(168 posts)Her Neocon Hawkish ways threating to bomb Iran?
How about supporting Rebels in Libya to create ISIS?
Or helping to overthrow Democratically elected Governments in Ukraine & Honduras?
Maybe about her flip flopping on Keystone & TPP?
Hey, we're just getting started....
She has a "DINO List" a mile long & I'll be glad to keep on going....
Just let me know!

Nah... Too much to ask I know.

(168 posts)Why don't you start with her moral character.
Please give us some examples....

I won't vote for Trump, but I cannot say for sure that Jill Stein won't get a check by her name if Bernie isn't on the ballot.

(11,986 posts)...means that when you said "twice that number would defect from GOP to HRC if TRUMP were the nominee" you're saying that the number defecting in the other direction would be 40%, right? But the same article says that that number is actually 14%. Or are you talking about something else?

(3,811 posts)Their clients might sometimes "include MSNBC and Fox News", but in this case the client was the Trump campaign, who hired them to conduct an "online poll and dial-test of Trumps first campaign ad."
I'm very skeptical of this propaganda.
There are still quite a few Democrats who didn't jump ship back in the 1970s and 1980s. I'm sure that many of them find Trump's nativism and borderline racism appealing. Let them leave.

(3,431 posts)overestimate the intellect of many voters.
Trump (and Cruz) are far more dangerous than
a lot of people think. Their appeal to the lowest
possible emotions are quite successful.
I don't say that this poll is correct, but the media
support those two get could or might help them.

(168 posts)about the newest ones coming out of Iowa & NH?
So, I'll say it again....The reason why Sanders has a 13 point edge on Trump in other polls is because of the Independents who would go over to Sanders.
And if a Clinton Supporter doesn't understand, then they will not win the GE if Hillary is the nominee;
It do go a lot more deeper than they are all a bunch of "Angry White Men"

(9,841 posts)Nobody will be defecting to Trump, because Hillary is not going to be the nominee. There's simply not enough enthusiasm out there for Hillary. Her supporters are fair-weather, landline-phone-poll supporters, who will stay home on primary day and root for her from their sofas. Hillary is going to lose the primary to Bernie.

(367 posts)How can you claim the masses aren't excited when just today, after unleashing the former President to stump for her, he came to Albuquerque to speak to a houseful of people who each paid $1000. just to get in? Pictures were a bargain at only $1700..
Seriously... A houseful... yes one-tenth of one-percent of Albuquerque's likely democratic voters...
Do they really think we are this stupid?

(13,616 posts)the same damned Reagan democrats that have been the favorite children since Clinton, the same people who like the idea of a rich white guy who knows the "problem" is that "we ain't takin care of us, and listening ta all dose Minorities pinkos and wimmin." Your classic Archie Bunker types in the North and Bubbas in the South who the Democrats have been so desperate to trade the left in for. Guess what, they will always go for a GOP, especially a loud and crude GOP whose whole selling point is that complicated problems are just simple things to smash, things the intellectuals and minorities made up so they could make a living off the "hard working people."
The DWS wing of the party has been trying to woo the Reagan Democrats for years, and no matter how many times the DINOs blow smoke in our faces, we are supposed to grin and bear it, and ignore it when the Democrats are busy trying to throw another constituent overboard:
Time to get rid of the unions!
Time to get rid of people on welfare!
Time to get rid of the working class!
Time to toss out hippies that won't let us make oil money!
Time to toss out anyone that don't want more guns!
splash splash splash glub glub glub
And then, after the Democrats have been emaciated, they stride the boat acting like an admiral, while down below, the Reagan Democrats have been getting fat and strong, so much so the wight of their posteriors makes the boat tilt so far right even Nixon and Reagan fall overboard! But Admiral Debbie does not have to worry, she still gets paid, even though the ship is racing right towards the rocks. But no, Debbie and your crew, the Reagan Democrats will get rid of you too, and the fact that you will be the last to go will simply mean that, in the end, you are alone and helpless, because the people who you were supposed to protect were long ago sold out, because you wanted to think you could turn your blood enemies into friends. You will be like a stray dog in the street, alone, with no one to feed you because everyone is either too poor or selfish.

(13,616 posts)Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didnt you?
Peopled call, say, Beware doll, youre bound to fall
You thought they were all kiddin you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin out
Now you dont talk so loud
Now you dont seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
and if Debbie manages, despite the blood sweat and tears many of those who were spat on will put to keep the GOP out, to lose YET AGAIN, this is the song I will play for her. I will also play ti for Hillary, because she knew she should have kicked Debbie to the cub back in 2015.

(168 posts)And talking about polls, who is more influenced & changes their position continuously because of them then HRC?
mikehiggins
(5,614 posts)20% of Dems would not support HRC and go with Trump instead?
I think that has a margin of error of 275%
