Before a fired-up crowd of primarily pink-clad women, Clinton alluded to the controversies the group has faced since a series of videos by anti-abortion activists were released in 2015. Clinton argued that Republicans would "accelerate the assault on access to safe and legal abortion" and that she is the person best positioned to beat them in November.
"I will always defend Planned Parenthood and I will say consistently and proudly, Planned Parenthood should be funded, supported and protected, not undermined, misrepresented and demonized," Clinton said. "As your president, I will always have your back."

Interesting.
I for one think that anyone, regardless of color, who has experienced prejudice will "get" what I went (and go) thru as a gay atheist.

(687 posts)That's a real stretch. I always thought that a woman would leave her man if she learned that he was not loyal. I guess I'm wrong? Women I know, because they have a lot of self respect, would leave in a heart beat.
NastyRiffraff
(12,448 posts)For example: Economics, children, fear. Or maybe, just maybe, she loves him.
Unlike, of course, all the women you know. With self-respect and all. And a heart beat.
dpatbrown
(368 posts)to be told the factors that force a woman to stay with her spouse. I served 15 years on a board of directors for battered women. I learned through my years of experience that women leave because they can't trust their mate, a critical ingredient to a healthy relationship. Others, like I stated before, for their self respect. That's very important to the women I know.
Do you think that Clinton has self respect? Was it fear, children, or economics, like you stated, that kept her in her situation? Maybe she's just a weak woman.
NastyRiffraff
(12,448 posts)That she loves him? Of course, I can't read her mind any more than you can, but it is an option. That you completely ignored.

(15,438 posts)On the other hand, Bernie is about the ONLY candidate running who's unfit to serve as the Democratic Party nominee (you know, the Party he's been railing against for 25 years as a Socialist?) and thus as our president. He's never even been a good Congressman! But, facts be damned, right, Jon?
JonLeibowitz

(15,438 posts)WRONG. You should look up these two political ideologies.
All Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, are Social Democrats because the United States is a social democracy - just like Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Germany, Holland, France, etc.
Sanders is a Democratic Socialist - a socialist who believes in democratic elections but who believes in social ownership of all means of production (hence his hatred for Wall Street, and millionaires and billionaires, and love for single payer). He has never been a Democrat up until he had to sacrifice his convictions for political expediency in order to register in New Hampshire.

(610 posts)maybe not the conspiracy theory part, but the part about single payer eliminating the need for organizations like PP who are there to compensate for the lack of adequate coverage for care. I'd much rather have single payer if it meant that challenges to basic health services became a thing of the past.
msrizzo
(796 posts)Especially regarding reproductive rights. How does single payer magically create providers in areas where there are none except PP anx why would they not be neended? They would still be paid under single payer but they would be weakened if people wrongly believed they were no longer needed or that the battle for reproductive rights would be won just because of single payer.
tammywammy
(26,582 posts)Planned Parenthood is a health care provider. They would benefit under single payer.
This place is getting fucking ridiculous.
dragonfly301
(399 posts)currently provides much needed healthcare for women who can not afford it or who have employers who act as reproductive gatekeepers. It's a wonderful organization that I continue to support, but with a single payer system replacing the current screwed up system the need for Planned Parenthood would cease. They might still exist but every woman would have healthcare and could choose to get their healthcare elsewhere. That is why I support the candidate that supports single payer - healthcare for everyone should be our goal.
gwheezie
(3,580 posts)I don't follow your argument.
tammywammy
(26,582 posts)At the same location? Would all those doctors providing routine health checks disappear? Do you think abortions would suddenly be covered under single payer? Or that there will be more doctors willing to provide such a procedure if single payer is passed?
There will still be a need for health care providers like Planned Parenthood even with single payer.

(12,504 posts)I'm tired of the old bullcrap, that since Bernie voted for women's rights, that means he will actually accomplish and spearhead anything on his own. He lacks the initiative to introduce and move and fight for any legislation.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)millennials.
Sanders strikes me as someone who's only passionately focused on economic policy (maybe because he's the least wealthy Congressman and has a little envy there?) and doesn't much care for social policies. It's not to say he won't stumble into a certain social policy here and there and even vote the correct way, but he doesn't go out of his way to spearhead any change in that area. What he doesn't seem to get is, as president, it's his job to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. I've seen very little evidence that he's capable of doing that.
I am supporting, donating to, and will vote for the best qualified, most experienced, and strongest Democratic candidate against Republicans. And Hillary Clinton is it.
I am NOT voting out of hatred for a Democratic candidate, the so-called "anti-vote". That's childish and downright politically dangerous.
